Final Decision For New Tires For 19's Please Help!
Re: Final Decision For New Tires For 19's Please Help!
So this is the final word. Do I go 245/40 or 35-19 or 255/40 or 25???? Are 40 jsut as good in performance and that low profile aggressive sports look? Or on a straight performance rim go 35?? Thanks Martin

Here's the deal. If you want to be able to rotate all 4, go with the 245/40/19. You won't notice a difference in performance vs the 35's, and they won't affect the speedo. If you want wider in the rear, do 255/35/19 (255 is the widest you can go on a 8.5" rim) and maybe a 225/40/19 in the front. Don't do 255's all the way around. Make sure you get good tires (GS-D3's, Pilot PS2's, S0-3's, etc.)

Ok, I decided to go the 245/40-19's all the way around but with the Falken GR Beta FK-451, they have the same everything as the GSD3's, but they are way less expensive and nicer tread. Again thanks a lot for your help and everyone else. Do you know where I can see a size 40 tire brand new to see how high it is? Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by a "nicer tread," but if you are talking about performance, then I would say that it is not a nicer tread. Cheap tires are cheap for a reason. Tires are probably the most important part of the suspension, because they are what comes in contact with the road. If you go with a nice tire, it will make the world of difference in handling, if you go with a cheap tire, you could really screw yourself over after spending all the money on the wheels. A size 40 tire is going to be a different size on every tire, unless you find a 245/40/19. The 40 is the aspect ratio, and it changes when you change the width and size of the tire. Think twice before you go with a cheap tire, unless performance and wear are not issues you are concerned with. If it is just looks, then I suppose the tires don't make much of a difference.

ILLG35--
to reiterate about the tire height questions you are having: the 40 vs. the 35 series sidewalls. the sidewall is a ratio of the tire's width, in that the sidewall height of a 255/35/19 will have a sidewall height that is equal to "35" (a multiple mathematic formula) of the tire's 255mm width and 19" diameter. and a 275/35/19 will have the same 35 - BUT the sidewall height will be a "little" taller as the width (275 vs. 255) adds a larger number in the formula to acheive sidewall rating- and thus jumping the sidewall heigth a fraction taller. as a 225/35/19 will have a slightly shorter sidewall heigth- giving you what you seem to be after- the aesthetics of a lower profile tire.
DISCLAIMER- i am not 100% positive that is HOW the sidewall series is determined, but if you go to:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
you, too, can use this guide to check out tires and learn how the numbers affect the sidewall heigth, speedometer, etc.
and i'm sure khsonic can correct me if i have mislead you.
was just expanding on sidewall height comment so you could understand it for yourself and make better decisions as to what you are looking for.
and to jump on the bandwagon: you dont always get what you pay for but i seriously doubt the falkens are as good as the goodyears (multiple reasons) but you should get what you are comfortable with.

Re: Final Decision For New Tires For 19's Please Help!
Both of you thanks for the info and advice, very helpful. But for the tires, I look at it as anything is better than my stock tires, i know the Falkens are cheaper but they arent bad tires. Ive seen reviews for them and the actual tires on many cars. If I can get the extra money I will def. go for the GSD3's. But now my ? is are the Falken's any good? According to you guys they arent, but I do a lot in my stock tires and rims, with my new rims and tires I would think it would be 100x different then stock rite? Thanks Martin

i dont think the falkens arent good but rather that the gsd3's seem to be one of the best- and thus better than the falkens. but that is also coming from someone who has driven on neither tire... the nerve i have!!
