Kumho's were <$500 installed (225/50/17 with a V rating): Michelins, Bridgestones and other big name tires would have been >$900 with the same ratings as found in the sites mentioned above. I've now got >10,000 miles on them and they're quiet, smooth, have great grip, have even tread-wear and perform extremely well in wet and dry pavement. Don't so well in the snow... but then again, few performance rires do.

My advice- read TireRacks and Epinion's reviews, plus Consmuer Reports to get a more "research based" reviews.
The problem with user reviews is that the people who are testing and rating the kuhmo's likely aren't the same ones testing the high $ tires, and thus their judgement of a good tire is going to be significantly different from someone who has used the likes of a PS2 to KDW2. Alot of the tirerack tests have shown the same, with many of the expensive tires performing better, but at a higher pricepoint, the kuhmo's usually get bumped up in the ratings for their value, but you have to be naive to believe they are in the top tier of tire performance.
