wheel setup for 06 G35x

I've done some searching through many threads for possible aftermarket wheel sizes for a G35 sedan, but I'm not sure if those people had the AWD sedan. From what I know is that AWD system on G35x could potentially get damaged if you go with a rim/tire package that has different diameters from front to rear, so no staggered setup? I've seen many sedans that have wider rims in the rear, is that possible on the X without modding wheel wells in the fenders? If I decide to go with one size rim and slap two 3mm spacers in the rear, will that do any sort of damage since I'll have less thread engagement for the lug nuts? Ok too many questions, sorry, but please help me out.

Thanx.

I am running on 19" Privats. The size is 19x8 with 40mm offset. They sit pretty flush with the fender without spacers. Get all 4 rims same size. Staggered setup may mess up your transfer case.

Thanks for your advise ,nice rims btw, what's the tire size that you're running with?

Nothing prevents a staggered installation from using tires of the same diameter.

Just to clarify, by staggered you guys are referring to tires that are wider in the rear??

Or are you referring to different diameters??

I would assume different diameter wheels is what is important here as different diameters cause the wheel to rotate different speeds, but tire contact patch width wouldn't effect it at all?

In other words a 275/40/17 and a 315/35/17 are the same diameter so they would be fine to run even though the rear is 40mm wider

You're absolutely right, you need to maintain the same overall diameter from front to rear to control rotational speed. But if I go with wider tires in the back, I'm afraid I'll have to roll the fenders, which I'm not willing to do. Still, I'm not planning on doing a drop since in Brooklyn and Jersey the roads and driveways are full of pot holes and I'll bottom out every chance I get.

hi, im kinda new here but still confused as to what sizes tires i can use. Ive got the G35x all stock, not lowered and not planning on doing so anytime soon.
Would all tires have to be the same size? or as long as the diameter is the same i am ok?
I see a good deal for a set of used rims with rubber used on a rwd G but just want to make sure they will fit my x. I dont want to roll my fender either.

245/30/20 (Front) and 275/30/20 (Rear) would this fit? can someone please help. All feedback is appreciated.

From what I gathered by using a search button, the safest bet would be to do same size dia and width all around to preserve the transfer case. Even though the rear tires would have approx. the same outside diameter as the fronts, those rear tires are heavier and wider, and technically require more energy to spin. The computer in AWD system distributes the torque accordingly from the wheels that slip to the wheels that grip assuming they are all same size and weight. Technically you could bypass the whole thing by pulling the fuse and achieve a RWD setting on ur sedan and mount your staggered wheels, but there had to be a reason why you bought an AWD right? If you want the most performance out of your AWD sedan I would mount same size all around, if you're going for show, pull the fuse, and mount the staggered wheels. Hope this helps and do more searching, g/l.

Too Skinny of a tire, run 245/35/20, it will fill the gap better.

i was thinking even 245/40/20? would that work without rubbing?
I know that gap is huge... any good way to fix it with the available aftermarket parts without breaking the bank? I know suspension is an issue with the X

G35 coupe 19's on G35x?

Sorry about reviving this thread, but I really need someone's advise about rims and tires for the all wheel drive G35. I know that staggered fitment is not recommended, but looking at G35 coupe 19" oem rims, will 0.5mm difference in width make a difference as far as damaging the transfer case? Also, attached is a tire sizing chart, comparing sedan OEM tire sizing with 19" coupe tire sizing. In addition, I will mount 235/40/R19 tires on the fronts and on rears from the coupe to maintain equal outer wheel diameter. Do you guys think that it will work? I really like the oem 19's from the coupe, plus they are durable since they are forged. Thanks for your help.

I am trying to do the same exact thing. i have the 19" rays forged sitting in my closet, want to put them on my 05 g35x. talked to several people and they said the staggered shouldnt be an issue for the ECU as long as the OD is the same front to back. let me know how that is working/worked out for you....
