I just bought a set of four 215/55-17 Falken ZE-912's from Discount Tire Direct for $388.00 shipped to my house. These are rated #1 by consumer reports.

If you order the tires online, you have plenty of options that'll fall into your budget.

The Pirelli Nero M+S felt like a very good compromise of wet traction, dry traction, sound, comfort, and tire wear.
