Winter tires? Will they help?

Hey guys. im in binghamton, ny now and the weather here is so unpredictable.

it snows alot and the weather is brutal in the winter

i have an 07 coupe with the stock 19s (sport package)

how much will winter tires help?

how much will they cost (total)?

can i put my stock 19" on winter tires?

will i need them in the front or rear or all?

what other ways could i improve my traction in the snow?

how much will they help (to what extent)? do the benefits exceed the cost of the winter tires?

i would greatly appreciate if u guys would help as i am stuck at home cause of the weather = (

If you get winter tires you'd need them all around. I think you could pick up a set for ~800, but not sure for 19s. There are a lot of threads about winter tires, and they certainly don't hurt - they'll be much better than the stock tires.

Or, you could put chains on your wheels?

Pick up a set of OEM 17's or other cheap 17" wheels and snow tires for less than $1000 total and it will make a BIG difference. The OEM 19" tires should never be used in snow if you don't want to crash your car

dude, I was up in binghamton last year and the year before that in my coupe. The weather up there SUCKS! anyways, I live in nyc and when I was driving up there, I passed through a blizzard with my snow tires. let me tell you, I was impressed with the tires. I was going up hills from a full stop without even spinning the tires. I was able to pass SUV's!!!

Winter tires are a great investment for your coupe. If you look around, you'll be able to find great deals.

I bought my set a few years ago on tire rack for 700 for 4 rims and tires mounted and balanced on 17's.

They fit fine because I have the brembos and no issues with fitment.

yes you need them all around.

the rears will help you go, the fronts will help you steer and stop.

DON'T DO THE CHAINS! lol, I had a friend put chains on his mustang, links broke and ended up scratching up his car bad.

i dont want to buy new rims for 17" tires.

i want 19" winter tires. i found some on ebay but theyre around $1000 bucks for 4 tires. is this not bad for 4 19" winter tires?

i want to put my current stock 19" rims on them if possible to maintain the stock look. im willing to pay more to buy 19" tires so money isnt a major issue

yea, shipsaeki i goto bing.
nice name btw haha

If you're not planning on getting aftermarket rims, you might not want to subject your 19"s to the harsh conditions of winter anyway... 17's with snow tires really is your best bet.

Winter Tires:

1) They will help like you wouldn't believe
2) DO NOT just put winter tires on your 19" wheels, kind of defeats the purpose.
3) Get 17" Wheel/Tire package (all 4 wheels/tires) from Tirerack.com
4) Expect to pay around $1200 (another $250 or so for the tire pressure sensors in the winter wheel/tire package if you can't stand the low tire pressure light on through the whole winter)

Benefits will definitely out way the costs. I know Bing and you guys get some insane weather up there. I would definitely do this. The stock 19" wheels/tires don't go anywhere with snow on the ground. Those tires are max summer performance.

Do the 17" Winter Wheel/Tire Setup...you won't be disappointed.

OH FYI,

I have the 17" Winter Wheel/Tire setup on my car now. I'm using DUNLOP SPORT WINTERS. They work great. People also swear by the Blizzacks.

I'm using oem 18 inch wheels and Dunlop winter sport M3's for winter setup and they do ok in the snow, w/out them I don't think I could be driving in winter conditions.

do u mean you are using the OEM 18 inch wheels with your Dunlop tires?

why would it defeat the purpose if i put my OEM rims on the tires?

i dont wanna have to buy winter rims. are there even any designated for winter driving? i dont see any online

Tire rack sells winter wheel/tire packages - essentially just inexpensive wheels to go with a set of 17" winter tires.

In order for winter tires to work, they have to have deep tread = large side profile. I don't know if they even sell 19" winter tires, but even if they do your car would probably look pretty ridiculous with them on there.

I have a used set I got off a guy for $500 with Bridgestone Blizzaks. They were originally from tire rack, they are ASA 17" wheels and I am pretty sure you can get them for around $800 new.
