Brake squesks when not applied

Lately I have been noticing a load distinct intermittent squeak coming from the right front wheel of my 6MT coupe. The odd part, is that I hear this squeak when the brakes are not being applied. I can be traveling at any speed and the frequency of the squeak increases w/ increasing speed. When I apply the brakes, the squeak stops and occasionally resumes when I release the brakes. Are they're any brake experts in the house that can help diagnose my problem?

Since it's intermittent, it is difficult to reproduce for the dealer. In fact, I have already taken the car in once, but have been unable to duplicate the problem for them. I need more education before my next visit to the dealer. Thanks for all your help....

Re: Brake squesks when not applied

read it somewhere in the manual long time ago....squeaking noise when brake is not applied means your brake pad needs to be replaced.

I'll try to find that section in the manual again...and post the exact quote in there.

how many miles you got?

Did the dealership check the wear on the brake pads?...Or have any idea what may be causing it?

section 2-15 in manual:

"Brake pad wear warning

The disc brake pads have audible wear warnings. When a brake pad requires replacement, it will make a high pitched scraping sound when the vehicle is in motion whether or not the brake pedal is depressed. Have the brakes checked as soon as possible if the warning sound is heard."

Re: Brake squesks when not applied

I've got a little over 10k miles on the car so I find it hard to believe its the pads. At least, i haven't heard anything regarding premature pad wear on the Brembos.

When I visited the dealer, one of the service advisors took a lap around the dealership w/ me to see if we could replicate the problem. Unfortunately, we couldn't reproduce it--intermittent problem. He offered to put the car on the lift and see if he could notice anything, but he just shined an flashlight here and there and said "there is no problem." I think i'll take the car back in and have them thoroughly inspect the brakes.

The dealer said he would be "the envy of all porsche owners" if he could stop the squealing of high-performance brakes. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...what a load....

Re: Brake squesks when not applied

I had that problem when I replaced the pads on my car. Turned out that the shield behind the rotor was touching the rotor for some reason. When I bent it back the problem dissapeared.
