Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights

That chart doesn't have the Infiniti G35 factory rim weights.

I've been reading some posts and some people are putting the wierdest tire sizes on their rims/cars. Although this site I am providing says 'Miata' it's pretty accurate and should help EVERYONE!! You will then find out how your wheels offset your speedometer when you add wheels that are not supposed to be on your car.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

The second link is for rim weights, either factory equipment or aftermarket wheels. I don't know how accurate this site is, but should give you a pretty good idea of rim weights out there.

ENJOY!!

Yeah, just use the G20 and other Infiniti cars there for an approximation. That site hasn't been updated in a long while.

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights

if u use that chart it recommends a 235/50 17 to match the factory 215/55 17. Nobody makes a good dry/corning tire for that size? What is the recommended best handling biggest tire for the car on the factory rims?

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights

Good point. The choices at 215/55R17 suck (3 OEM tires, nothing else). The choices at 235/50R17 are better, but none of the great summer tires show up in the list. 225/55R17 and 225/50R17 are too far off for my taste on the speedometer. (I know they say you can go 3%, but I prefer to keep it under 1% -- call me ****, I don't care. )

Who's using non-OEM tires on stock 17" rims? How do you like them?

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights

235/45/18 would be perfect but unfortunately 235 tire sizes ARE hard to find in a summer tire. If/when I get my rims, they may be going on 225/45/18's.

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights

235/45-18s are what the M45 uses.... since it's credited as a "luxury muscle" car, maybe the tires on that thing isn't half-bad.... I wonder what kind of tiers that car uses....

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights

When choosing tire & wheel size you must realize one thing.............you can't put whatever size you want on. Reason I say this is because you'll screw up the gear ratio. For example, if the stock is a 17" on 40 series, you cannot go 19" on 45 series. By doing this, you're changing the gear ratio by expanding the total diameter of the car's wheels & tires, which means it'll take more rotations to maintain a speed it was originally meant for..............which comes down to slowing your car down. If someone does try this, they may end up realizing their top speed originally which was 155 mph has just been slowed down to, perhaps, 135mph.

Re: Wheel Size Calculator / Rim Weights

Which is why it's a good idea to use the tire calculator in the first post to get an idea of what sizes are close to your stock size. Keep the diameter within 3%, and everything should be okay.

Of course, that tire calculator is theoretical. You also have to realize that a 235/50R17 from one manufacturer may be a 233/49.5R17, and another manufacturer may have a 237/51R17 (just to pull out some random numbers). It's not a big deal, but if you want to stay really close, look up the tire's actual specifications and use the stated diameter (or revolutions per mile figure) to compare two tires more acurately.

Please put your posts into an existing thread with a similar subject, or create a new subject. This thread is not for the discussion of lighting or 19" rim fitment. It's for rim weights and wheel size calculations.

Actually, if you go with a larger overall diameter, you would theoretically increase your top speed. A smaller OD would decrease top speed.

"Of course, that tire calculator is theoretical. Excellent point. The 225 tires on S2000's were actually more like 245's by any other manufacturer.

"Yeah, just use the G20 and other Infiniti cars there for an approximation. That site hasn't been updated in a long while."

Actually, he seems to update quite a bit. Just hasn't added many factory rims lately.
