20 inch RIMS ~ Q:

Ok guys... I KNow u might not want to hear this but... I was orignally going to purchase 19in rims with a 240/40/19 tire... Just got bak from a rim shop where they had MRR 20in infiniti... They put the rim in place of my stock and i took and 10 steps back. It acually looked good... not ghetto nor was it to much on in your face. I had a small crowd of people gather around and look, all agreed it look great. ( one girl was driving off with new rims on her acura TL.. came back 5 mins later and asked to purshase the ones i was looking at...hahahah )

SO....
Q: what size tire do i purchase now with 20s once again without dropping the car and filling in the wheel wheel? 240/35/20?????
and aslo... Will I run into any problems with 20s rather then 19s? Not a huge difference? is it???
will try to post pics from my phone that i took soon.. let u guys see the diff.

245/35/20 on all 4 will work only draw back with the 20" rim is that they are heavier. However the 20" rim with stock suspension will not give you the look you want they aren't going to fill the wheel well any more than the 19 inch rim. It will actually do the opposite and make your wheel gap look larger than it actually is due to the lower profile tire. Then our cars have higher fenders in the front than in the rear which is more pronounced when you go with bigger wheels and tires on the stock suspension. If you want the look of filling the wheel well more I would go with a 19" rim with a +35mm offset with 245/40/19 tires. The +35 or even a +38 offset will put your wheels right at the fender line and the 40 series side wall will balance out the 19" rim better and will appear to fill your fenders more. I currently have 20" but I use to own 19" and I've had several suspension combinations and the 19" will give you the look you want. Which design MRR wheel are you looking to purchasing? There's some big discounts on the MRR HR2s you might want to shop around online and have the shop you are buying price match.

I was thinking the same thing PERRY, I just bought a set of coupe 19s today and tossed the rears 245s and kept the pair of 225-40 19s. I posted on here to sell the set of the 2 225-40-19's that still have 70% tread left and I'll purchase a set of 245-40-19's on all fours to get as close to a non staggered setup as I can since the rear wheels are half an inch wider than the front.

To the OP, I have a set of 20's with 245-35-20's, dropped on a nice new set of aggresive 350z H-techs.

Perry - 1st let me tell you that ur G is PHAT ! deff. five stars. looks like a sliver bullet.
Second - Im really worried about the rim I put on my car bc I know it can make or break the look. I dont think I can go with deep dish becuase the car is not going to be dropped so to much space happening.
tell me what u think... either the HR2 , HR4, or HR1 ? Im confused.. i fell like thier all nice but dont think I found the right rim yet... got any ideas?

Perry , one more qestion : just read that offsetting the wheels, a +35mm can harm the handling of the car. true? what is the advantages of offset ? will it make a big difference... sorry but first time purchasing rims. U cant rotate ur tires if you offset right? is it only the backs or all around? confused.

Easiest way to explain offset is to think of all the parts that are in your wheel well area. The wheels, tires, calipers, springs and shocks, and your fenders. The Offset of your wheel, the width of the wheel, center bore and tires all come into play.

Now for a sedan Non staggard as long as the offset on your rims are all the same you can rotate them. The exception is if you are running offsets that are close to each other front and back on the same width rim and same size tires front and back. A +35 offset will not have a negative impact on performance or handling of your car as long as it's not on a 10inch rim or wider keep your rim width at 8.5" or less and the +35 will look great on a sedan. If I explained the geometry of offsets it would be too confusing since there's 3 types just know that the sedan friendly offsets are +45 to +33 on any rim that is 8.5" wide or smaller for the front and +45 to +40 rear on any rim that is 10" wide or smaller. You can play around with lower offsets but you'll have to make additional changes to make it all work properly.

Picking aftermarket rims can be challenge just make sure you know the basics... Our car has a 66.1 center bore so make sure the aftermarket rim center bore is that size or larger most are larger but a lot of the higher end wheels are designed specifically to fit a certain car so he center bore may be smaller and if you are interested in other factory 5x114.3 the center bore will play a important factor in weither the will fit. Ask if the rim manufacture makes a hubcentric ring for a 66.1 centerbore. Make sure the offsets are within the spec range listed.

MRR wheel designs I personally don't like the MRR GT-1 because the rims are too rounded to achieve the lips. I'm more biased towards the HR series because they are concaved but I would go with some of the newer concaved rim designs from Advans, Enkei, 5Zigen to name a few. Good luck guys and don't make any purchases with out pm'ing someone here on the board about the wheel specs first to be safe.
