HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

Hey guys,
I need your help....once again. However, now I need to make a decision so I can put my order in on the Iforged group buy. Thanks Damen!!!

Here's the deal. I am very torn between getting 19's or 20's. I don't want my car lowered, so I have been leaning towards 20's. However, after reading many posts it appears that I have to get a 30 series tire (rear) if I go with 20's.....in order to keep the car within specs (speedometer wise). My problem is with how THIN a 275/30/20 tire is. Would it totally screw up the speedo to have a 245/35/20 f & 275/35/20 r ?? I really, really want the Falken Azenis tires and it only comes in 275/35/20. I want this wheel for the quiet ride. I checked that tire fitment thread and this size is larger than recommended. Pls advise what problems this size tire will cause.

Maybe I should just go with 19's and get 245/35/19 & 275/35/19 and be done with it. The only problem is that the Azenis wheels somes in 275/30/19. Grrrrrhhhh....

I can't believe how stressful buying wheels & tires has become. Decisions....decisions....

Geeez, it's hard being a G35 Diva (he-he)

Thanks fellas!!!

Re: HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

if you can afford the 20's go with them, the ride is not bad at all, i just put damens 20" ifroged evo and the ride isnt much different than stock, im glad i went 20's cause i was think of 19's also for the ride quality, but 20's is the way to go if you want a little thicker sidewall go with a 285/30/20 in the rears

Re: HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

yup i totally agree. 19's get swallowed by the fenders on this car. 20's is a much unless you plan on lowering. trust what i say g35-diva. i wouldn't steer you wrong.

Re: HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

Overall diameter of the tires will (should) be the same as stock (+-2%), the only diff. is a larger wheel diameter on a shorter sidewall. Why does everyone say 20s will fill up the wheel well more when you're gonna end up with the same tire diameter as the stock 18s? I guess they mean to say they "look like they fill up the space more". People with 20s are lowering just as much as people with 19s.

Re: HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

My advice would stem on how the road conditions are in your neck of the woods. A 245/30/20 is only going to have about 2.89" of sidewall whereas the 245/35/19 has about 3.37" of sidewall. That extra sidewall could be the difference between spending a lot of $ for a replacement wheel(s). If you have smooth roads, go for the 20"s. If not, the 19"s will give you a little more protection.

i agree with SoCaLG35Mashin, 20's still need a drop IMO theres still a decent size gap that needs to be filled

Re: HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

Whewwww.... Very good opinions. I live in Houston were the roads suck!! However, my daily drive is on a very smooth highway. I have the potholes memorized. (smile) It is my understanding that 20's are taller, so they would fill up more of the wheel well. Is that correct?

Regardless of what size, I won't be lowering. I personally think the gap with 19's is not bad. However, I have noticed some with 20's still lowering. Way to risky for a diva. Excuse my igonorance, but is sidewall the "thickness" of the tire?? I just don't want to be fixing bent wheels & replacing tires every few months.

NismoGcoupe: Excellent choice!!!! Those are one of my two favorites. Is their a noticeable difference in performance with the 20's (sluggish)?? That was the other important thing I was concerned about. I'm glad to know the ride is similiar. What brand & size tires do you have??

Damen: I know you would never steer me wrong. You just want me to be a "baller-ette". (he-he)

Any more thoughts??? I appreciate it!! ;-)

Re: HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

I did notice a little performence decrease only off the line though, once you rolling the power is still there, I have Toyo T1-S 275/30/20 and 245/35/30, i think you would be fine with a setup like that, I live in jesey and the ride is fine and the roads over here are alot worse than texas, since your not going to be lowering go with a 285/30/20 in the rear, it will fill in the gap in a little more

Re: HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

Ok guys, one more thing. Can someone pls take a look at www.falkentire.com ("luxury sport" tires) Azenis

It doesn't come in 285/30/20. It only comes in 275/35/20. I know each maker's tire may read exactly the same size, but in fact may be smaller, taller, wider than another maker. I'm wondering would the Azenis 275/35/20 be the equivalent to say Toyo or Dunlop's 275/30/20?? How do I find that out?? I really want the Falkens. The burning question...can I use this Azenis??

Nismo: Thanks....I need all the input I can get. If Jersey roads are worse than Houston, than I might be okay with 20's. (smile)

Thanks,
Kim

Re: HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

you can always go with the falken FK-451 285/30/20 in the rear and 245/35/20 in the front, i seen no problem with having different tires in the rear than the front as long as its the same company, thats what i was gonna do but then i got a very good deal on the toyo's t1-s and they are one of the best tire you can get IMO

Diva, take a look at my previous post again. 20s look like they do, but fact of the matter is the wheels fill up the tire, the tire fills up the wheel well. Again, you want to end up with the same tire diameter as the stock 18s, meaning the gap is gonna be the same no matter what size wheels you get. Unless you go with thicker sidewalls or lower with springs/coilovers. .

Re: HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

Nismo: I want the style of tires all the way around. I've hear good things about Toyos, but I've also heard they a bit noisy.

I'll figure out something. Looks like I will have quite a while to think about tires once I order the wheels with Iforged.

Re: HELP!! Wheel & tires G-experts

Ok Fellas,
I asked this question at the beginning of my post, but I'm still trying to get a definitive answer from you G experts. (Damen!!) Where's the love?? (smile)

Ok, I ordered the wheels but I'm still trying to decide on the tires. Unfortunately, the links are no longer working on the "wheel size calculation" thread. Pls advise if I can go with either of these set-ups and be within the 3% diameter .... blah, blah, blah. Not sure if I'm saying that correctly. ;-)

As I mentioned, I really want the Falken tires. Here is what they offer in 20's. Will either set-up work?????? Pls help me out guys, as I am sick of this wheel & tire stuff!!!! (smile)

245/35/20 f (Azenis)
275/35/20 r

OR

255/35/20 f (GRB FK451)
285/30/20 r

Do I need to pick another tire??? Grrrrhhhh.....

Thanks a lot!!!
