Ideal Tire Pressure

Hello all. Could somebody please tell me what the tire pressure for my coupe should be? I looked it up in the manual but all it says is to refer to the tires themselves (which say that the max is 44psi). If the max is 44psi, should I be at around 40? 30?

Sorry guys, I'm a girl who doesn't know much about these things.

Re: Ideal Tire Pressure

This information is usually printed on a sticker in the door jamb of the car. It is generally between 32 and 35 psi.

Re: Ideal Tire Pressure

coupe is 35 psi COLD on all 4 corners. Check the drivers side door jam as recommended above. It's best to check the tire pressure first thing in the morning, before it has been driven. Hot air increases the tire pressure because it expands at a rate which is greater than the volumetric change in the tire itself. Yeah, I'm a geek, so what...

Re: Ideal Tire Pressure

The bulk of the tire manufacturers test at 30 AND 35psi when they graph the Pacejka Parameters........they know how to extrapolate changes with higher pressures.

Re: Ideal Tire Pressure

I keep mine halfway between the tire manufacturer's recommendation and Infiniti's recommendation. I read that somewhere and have done it since. Hope this helps...

Re: Ideal Tire Pressure

35 PSI all around for me.. and like neffster says, that's when the tires are "cold"

Re: Ideal Tire Pressure

I have also read that, for racing, good results can be achieved with the tires run between the manufacturer's recommended pressure (optimized for ride quality) and the tire's maximum pressure. Of course, this is a general rule of thumb. Experimentation is required for best results.

I have also posted additional information in this thread:

Re: Ideal Tire Pressure

The auto manufacturer's recommendation takes ride comfort into account. Running a slightly higher pressure gives you a little fuel economy, a little better handling, and a little bit bumpier of a ride. 32-35 is generally a safe place to be for standard city/highway driving. The tire maker's max pressure is just that.. a max pressure, as in "never go above this" -- a safe place to stop for legal reasons, so you can't sue them if you overinflate and pop your tire. You shouldn't run them that high anyway.

I do autocross (one form or racing) and higher pressures do help with handling. It keeps the tire tread from rolling over under hard cornering. 40 front/38 rear seemed to work okay for me with the OEM Turanza tires. I have some different tires now, and I'll have to experiment with them a bit to find the right pressures. I need to read up on it.. something to do with using chalk to determine how far the tire is rolling over, and whether you need more or less air.
