Advice ... brakes, wheels, tires, suspension?!
Advice ... brakes, wheels, tires, suspension?!
Hey! I have an 06 Red Coupe w/ the 19s and its hitting around 30k miles, so its about time for some changes. I need new tires, breaks, and possibly suspension/wheels? I wanted to get some advice before I invest into this. I figured its prob not the best idea just to go to infiniti, to get new brakes and tires ... So can yall please help... im really stupid when it comes to car parts... should i get aftermarket breaks (the ones w/ the holes?...dunno what there called) or does the whole break set not have to be replaced, should I get new wheels (20's possibly?) w/ what tires? should i get a drop?
Thanks guys

Yeah, the stealership will charge you 200 an Axel for factory brakes.
I LIKE the factory brakes. The stop well and are low dust.
However, I would recomend the StopTech Stage II kit for your car.
You get your choice of Slotted or drilled rotors
Hawk HPS pads
SS braided lines
And MOTUL 600 synthetic brake fluid
This will give you great improvement in factory brakes and won't "brake" the bank (less than $700 for parts) if you do it yourself.
There are lots of suspension parts out there. Unless you want to put in camber arms in both front and back, don't lower more than 1". That way you can get an alignment and not have much abnormal tire wear. 350Z springs and shocks work well and can be had for not a lot. Again if you do it yourself, you can save $400-500.
There are some great stuff in the "Brakes and Suspension" section. Take a look and do a LOT of reading. Ask questions, that's why we are all here, we "been there, done that".
Good Luck

I'd stay away from 20's. They'll look ghetto without a drop. And, considering your car is in NEED of important maintenance. I'd def. get the brakes fixed FIRST. Second, get a nice set of tires for your 19's.
Now, I don't know what your budget is, but afterwards, a nice drop is what I'd recommend. Imo, you get what you pay for when it comes to suspension. If you're wanting something that really changes the dynamics of your car, coilovers are an investment that will reward you.
At the least go with a set of Tein Basics ($800~) + SPC rear kit ($200~) +($300~ installed) <--- You'll have a lot of fun with this. The basics will allow you to adjust your ride height, and the SPC kit will help with the -camber in the rear. Don't worry about front camber, just take care of your car, rotating and even flipping the tires side to side often, and you'll never see bad wear up front.
If you want to step up your game a little, throw in a set of Hotchkis Sway bars to the equation ($300~). A good shop won't charge you more than 3 hours labor to do all of the above mentioned parts. Let us know your region, and we can point you in the right direction.
I'm a little biased, because this is the exact same setup I have on my car. I only say this is a place to START, because I would not have been satisfied with anything less than this on my car. I'm actually planning on upgrading my basics eventually, but for right now, they're all I need.
