Angry 04 Sedan - Rubbing with coupe 18s (now with PICS)

Hey guys - so I recently bought a used 04 sedan and it came with stock 17s. The car drove good and had no issues.

So today I put coupe 18s (225/45/18 in the front, 245/45/18 in the back), and now everytime hit a bump I hear the tire hit the back fender . I dont think this should happen on stock suspension? How can I tell if the car was dropped? I mean it does it look low, but I am not sure. I pill post pics soon.

so what should I do?

Should I put the 17s back on (by the way 18s look great) or roll the fenders or take it to a shop and change shocks/struts/springs?

Just need an idea which route to go...Thx.

I think pictures are definitely in order here. My 04 had coupe 18's with absolutely no problems and as you can see there are others with no issues. I think there may be something going on with your car specifically.

Did any of you guys have your fenders rolled? I read in the forums that coupe 18s and 19s have a different offsett and requires to roll your fenders?

I guess i need to try rolling fenders or maybe go with 225 in the back. Currently whenever i hit a bump, I hear a horrible noise of the tire rubbing against the fender.

The cross section width varies from tire to tire. The cross section width is the measurement of the tire width from the inner sidewall to the outer sidewall. Your tires appear to be pretty beefy.

For instance a Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R 245/45/18 has a section width of 9.6" while a Bridgestone Potenza RE050 245/45/18 has a section width of 9.9". Both have the same treadwidths and aspect ratios. I guess it is just depends on the design of the tire.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...p#sectionwidth

Tirerack also has the section widths spec'd for each tire.

That 0.3" is a big difference when you have very aggressive offsets. It could mean the difference of rubbing and no rubbing.

Also, you can take some painter's tape and tape the fender, drive around, and look at where it is hitting the fender (on the tape). It could be just a wee bit of rubbing. If that is the case you could take a dremel wheel and cut off just a little (if you are comfortable in doing that).

Otherwise just roll the fender, drop the car, and call it a day.

that is very odd that you rub on stock height/suspension, like mentioned the pics will tell a better story.

That could just be from not sitting on level ground. When I park my G at home it looks like the left side of the car is sagging and the tire is low just cuz it's up higher on the right.
