Brake Dust

With everyone complaining about brake dust, you would think someone would come up with a way to stop it. Everyone puts these nice rims on their cars and then it's clean them every other day. I for one am getting sick of it. I am getting too old to be doing this so often. I like a clean car and clean rims but I can't do it anymore. What do you guys think? Oh I know clean the rims then put wax on them and the dust will come off easier. Find a solution for this problem please...

Re: Brake Dust

Search this forum for the "brake dust" topic and you'll find lots of alternative brake pads that solve the problem quite nicely, while providing similar or better stopping than the stock pads.

Of course, you'd disqualify yourself from Infiniti's 3yr/36,000 mile brake pad & rotor warranty.

Re: Brake Dust

I heard lots of good things about the EBC Greenstuff pads so I put some on my car (Brembo) and so far it honestly has not done a thing. Another member of my AZ G35 club put them on his car (Brembo) as well with the same result. Little to no change in the brake dust. So I'm not sure why it didn't work for me or my friend but at this point I can't recommend those pads to anyone, atleast not as a brake dust solution anyway.
btw...I agree that the brake dust thing is beyond annoying. I wish there was a true solution because the pads didn't do a damn thing!

Re: Brake Dust

I'm ready for some suggestions too. I guess I will stay away from the Greenstuff pads. I was considering them, but I'll take your word that they don't do a damn thing.

I'm just disgusted with the amount I brake dust I get from even the shortest cruises. My wheels are literally covered after 10 miles of driving at the most.

Re: Brake Dust

You know, if you drive the car for a couple of weeks without washing it, then rotate the tires, then drive for a couple more weeks.. the front and rear wheels will match again.

Re: Brake Dust

When you change your brake pads get EBC Greestuff pads from www.tirerack.com That's what I did. They are amazing and I have literally no brake dust. I bought all 8 pads for 129 dollars and installed them myself.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: Brake Dust

Sinurgy is the first person I've heard complain that EBC doesn't reduce dust. Many others are happy with them. Who knows? Look for this topic in multiple threads in this forum to get more opinions on EBC Greenstuff, Hawk HPS, Satisfied Pro Ceramics, and a few others.

Hey c'mon ryoken, I didn't complain. I just posted my experience. No ranting, no whining, no faces. Just my experience with the pads is all.

Well Malx does believe in Dreamworks superchargers so he is obviously a bit iffy! j/k Malx!
Considering this discussion, it's ironic because it was actually Malx's DIY tutorial that I used to learn how to install my new EBC brake pads. Thanks again Malx!
btw...if anyone wants to change their brakes, his tutorial is perfect!

Anyway, onto the pads...I don't really know what to say. I'm just reporting what my experience has been. Both me and Pjjenk (fellow AZG35 member) have had little or no decrease in brake dust since installing the EBC Pads. We both changed our pads about 2 months ago and as I said, same amount of brake dust. Maybe it's an Arizona thing, maybe we both got bad pads or maybe we both drive harder than most 6MT owners (doubtful). I don't know the answer but I do know that they didn't do anything for me. If someone wants them bad enough, I could take some pictures. I just washed my car yesterday so I'm sure by the weekend the rims will be full of brake dust!

I just figured I should add what I deem as too much brake dust. I do not believe my wheels should look like gunmetal within a week of washing them. I think washing them every
few days shouldn't be necessary. So after doing research and hearing about the EBC's, I assumed they would fix my problem. They didn't but perhaps me and Pete were just being unrealistic in our expectations. Perhaps if you are someone who washes their rims every other day the EBC's make a difference. I don't think so but then again I don't wash my rims every other day. I'm more of a once a week guy.

Re: Brake Dust

Okay, "complain" was the wrong word.. first person with a negative experience with the EBC pads. Better?

Sorry they don't work for you. They're supposed to produce a much finer grained, and lighter colored dust that's much less noticeable, as well as less of it. I imagine you'll be trying one of the other options next time. I haven't tried any aftermarket pads yet, as my original pads still have some wear left on them. Surprising, considering I wore out the Turanza's in 11,000 miles.

Yep that is better!

I think I will try the Hawk pads next. I'm hoping one of the members of my local G35 club will go with some Hawks so I can see if they make an actual difference. If they do I might just switch out my pads now even though they are still new but for now I think brake dust is just something I'll have to adjust too.

Re: Brake Dust

Well, I hope nobody thinks the dust thing it limited to the G35, every BMW, Audi, Honda 2000, etc has a huge amount of dust, the 2000 seems even worse than the G, front and back, on my car, the back barely has any dust visible!
