Tire noise, but tread is good.....

Has anyone ever experienced increased tire noise at slower speeds, but the tread is still good? It happened very gradually over the last few thousand miles. I have about 22 k on them. Thanks for your input......

Most of us know exactly what you're refering to. I had a set of Michelins on
my Volk GT-Cs and never heard a whisper, I sold that set and got new wheels
with Bridgestones tires. The noise these tires make is, well they sound like
36" mudders on a 4X4. I'll use them thru the winter but next summer I'm
going back to the Michelins. I won't sell the Stones cause I wouldn't wish
this noise on anyone.... Bridgestone Trash Tires!

Negative camber is the cause. It's on every forum and quite common. Goes with ownership of the Coupes. Once the tires are feathered, there is not much to be done. It usually shows up between 8-10,000 miles and gets progessively louder after. If you can get 15,000 mile plus while tolerating the noise, you are doing well. Some tread blocks are less noisey. It's a matter of trial and error. The G37s have resolved this issue. Good luck.

Michelin warns that internal durability suffers after 20k on every tire..........yet warranties only cover treadwear.

Tires are designed to be very quiet only during first 1/3 of treadwear and the tuning changes as the tread depth changes.

Now heel toe feathering is another situation caused by camber, toe and caster forcing the tread to wear unevenly just like pigeoned toe people wear their shoe heels at an angle.

The more rigid the suspension the worse it works the tires.

Two types of tire warranties:

1) Against any manufacture defect (not road hazard) that manifests itself down to 2/32" of tread depth - in which the price of a replacement tires is prorated according to the amount of remaining tread depth.

2) Tread life warranty - warranties that tire tread will not wear below 2/32" within a stated amount of miles. Say a tire has a tread life mileage warranty of 60,000 miles and the tread depth falls under 2/32" of an inch at 30,000 miles. Under the terms of the tread life warranty a replacement tire would be issued at 50% the price of a new tire - or the ratio of the miles achieved to the miles warranteed.
