INSTALLING NEW WHEELS...TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS?

Hi,

Can I install AF wheels and still keep my tire pressure sensors?

2 G or NOT 2 G, there is no question!

Randy,
As long as the sensor is able to sit reasonably flat against the surface then it's ok. Otherwise the in-board centrifugal switch will never trigger to turn on the unit as the wheels spin.

Also be sure to follow the correct procedure outline in the service manual while mounting or dismounting the tire. The sensor is easily damaged, especially durring the tire mounting process. They busted one of mine in half

Clint,

Where can I get a copy of the Service Manual that outlines this procedure?

I'm considering putting the OEM sensors on aftermarket rims, too.

Thanks

Clint,
Did you install the sensors on your ride?

Re: INSTALLING NEW WHEELS...TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS?

Well ... I've tried. After they broke one in half durring the first attempt, I kindly ask them not to do it again. This is, of course, before I found out what the proper mounting procedures were. Darn it ... I knew I should of checked first!

I'm still looking for a way to replace or fix the busted one. I'd love to get them installed in my new wheels.

Re: INSTALLING NEW WHEELS...TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS?

Clint, the weirdest thing happened. I had my AF wheels put on and did not remove the sensors from the stockers and tonight on the way back from LACR, the sensor gauge came on...anyway to disable it?

Unfortunately no. It's normal that it goes off while the system checks with the sensors that are no longer there. It's not a big deal really.

Re: INSTALLING NEW WHEELS...TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS?

Clint,

Thanks for posting the sensor installation info. By the way, do you need to do this any time the tire is removed? In other words, just for changing tires on the OEM wheels for example?

Thanks!

Gojira

Re: INSTALLING NEW WHEELS...TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS?

Is it possible to get another set of sensors from the dealer for the aftermarket wheels? Also any idea if the 2004 G35X sedans have the tire pressure sensors standard. I think I read that it was standard but not 100%. I eventually want to get aftermarket rims and tires.

Re: INSTALLING NEW WHEELS...TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS?

You can certainly get a new set of sensors for your aftermarket wheels, but your car will not recognize them unless you reprogram the system to do so and will at the same time render the old set of sensors useless.

All 2004s do indeed come standard with tire pressure sensors.
