hi, i couldn't find a specific answer in the search area, quick question will 235/50/17 rub in the front, the guy who sells tires insists they will, the original is 215 which is 2cm narrower than the 235, i turned the wheel both directions while looking at them and i see lots of clearance my sedans isn't lowered or anything like that, just stock

 

No it won't rub while mounted on the stock wheel.

One of my friends ran 255/40/18 tires on the front with no problem on his 04 sedan
Edit: changed size from 255/50/18 to 255/40/18

 

I want to be sure I heard this right. Are you saying that 255/50/18's didn't rub at all and that they fit w/o any mods to the car? Was he running the same size on the back? I've been interested in 225/60/17's, thinking this would be the max size I could get (going for hieght and not width) for the front.

 

I've seen several 03-04 sedans running 235/50/17 w/o rubbing, even when the car has several passengers. I've also seen 1 with 235/55/17. The height of the 235/50 is pretty much the same as the 215/55.

 

Actually I was wrong they weren't 50s they were 40s. They were 255/40/10 PS2s on 8.5" x 18 rims with a 42 mm offset. He was running them front and back.
He had a mild drop.

Maciejk, I dont know what year your car is. However I have an 06 Sedan which runs stock 234/45 18's. My car will have the same clearance as yours (assuming its an 03-06 which is the forum you posted in) unless you have changed your brake package.

There isn't much difference in size between 235/50 17 and 235/45 18's...

NP, sorry for my typo, just glad we have it corrected .

 

You will be fine. I have 19 inch wheels on 245/40 tires with no rub.

 

235's are fine. Just don't go much wider than that on the oem wheels.

Are you referring to 235/50/17's, or 235/55/17's??

 

thanks for the input guys, i did end up with 4 michelin pilot sport a/s tires 235/50/17 they seem to be fine no rubbing, i just wished they looked better from the side

 

You should be very happy with them. I am very pleased with my Michelin PS A/S tires (245/45/18) this is my second year with them and they perform very well. I've never tried them in the snow though, since I prefer a winter tire for the snowy months.
