20" wheels and tires... need a quieter smoother ride

G35 Sedan- 2006

I have toyo proxes 4 255/35/20. Going to a 40 series isn't an option.

I just want to be at or better than OEM in terms of road noise and ride quality.

The only thing aside from the above is that the tires still have a nice looking side wall to match the my 20" rims.

I bought my rims tires the two days after I bought the car and the only thing I remember about the trip to the beach with the OEM wheels / tires / suspension is that the car could corner at a higher speed. I also have lowering springs made specifically for the car.

Is it possible to get OEM or better ride quality with a different brand of tire using the 20" rims and sport / lower suspension? ? Suggestions?

I'm trying to decide if I should return the lease or buy it. If I can get rid of the road noise, get a better "luxury" feel on the road, get the blue tooth handsfree working right I might just keep the car since it only has 25k on it.

Just checked on the springs in case that would enable you guys to give better advice. They are Eibach progressive springs made for the Infiniti.

Would adding a set of shocks in combination with tires help at all??

Its not so much the springs as it is the tires. Im pretty sure your car had "cushy" 18" wheels from the factory. Ditching those and putting 20s on the car is going to make every road imperfection much more noticable.

I have tried a few different springs on my coupe and nothing changing the ride like adding 20s. Even when I went from 20s down to 19s, I noticed quite a difference in ride quality.

Yes, I believe my car had 17" bridgestones...shoot I JUST looked at them and now I forget.. LOL.

So it all boils down to tire selection and accepting the fact that while I can a better ride quality with different tires, it will never be as good as the OEM setup.

Also, it's more road noise than ride quality... although I'm pretty sure if you get one you get the other.

Going to be hard getting a good ride out of a 20" combination that's been lowered. Best to stick with an all season tire that doesn't have to sacrifice ride comfort for handling. Won't be near oe 17" ride, but should help.

My main concern is cabin noise. The ride, IMO, is not that bad. I'm not out racing or hard cornering etc..

Now, I might get caster/camber parts to correct the very little wear that is uneven but it would only be to save the tires, not for handling.

I'm looking at, if I keep this car, having the entire car sound deadened to the point that it is quieter than the most quietest cabin on the market.

Neal... what are some of the quieter tires out there and will the all seasons have the same side wall appearance as a more performance tire?

I'd look a the B-Stone RE960, Dunlop Sport Signature, and Michelin Pilot Sport AS+. As far as appearance goes, thats more subjective so I'll leave that part of it up to you.
