44K and new brakes again
Just got my 5AT Sedan back from the dealer. I asked that
they do the standard 45K inspections and stuff, I expected to
pay around $30 for the oil change. Steve called me up and
said my front brakes are 90% gone, rears 80% $470
Needed new belts, $120 and I needed a new air conditioner
compressor, replaced under warranty as per a TSB
Apparantly the Nissan brake pads only last 15K miles, as
the fronts were replaced at 16K, 30K along with rotors,
now at 45K.
2003 TwBlue 5AT Sedan, sunroof,
Graphite Leather, splashguards, HKS muffler,
14 wire Grounding kit, 350Z duct, Stillen HF/AB
Underbody rear diffusers, Drilled alum pedals

Re: 44K and new brakes again
didnt they initiate some kind of 3 year warranty thing with the non-brembro brakes? Im kinda curious cause my mom goes through brakes fast anyways... and she drives an 04 sedan.. Also how long will brembo's last on my coupe? I dont use them that much since i have a 6mt, but im just curious....
btw... im sitting at my work (interning for my dad but my boss leaves at 4:30 and he stays till 7 so im here on g35driver with no work lol).... well i used to feel kind of bad about talking on here instead of working because i get paid to stay up here.... but REALLy dont have any work and hav enothing to do... but anyways... my dad just walked by with a putter in hand following a golf ball... WTF is that... he's the president so he gets to golf around the office! haha i was in the middle of the post and ALT+TABBED out so that it looked kinda like i was working... and the old man is playin f'in golf!

Re: 44K and new brakes again
I got the rotors and brake pads + labor for free at 30K miles,
now 14K miles later, all the pads are toast and need
replacing. Since my G has 43K miles, the 36K mile
brake warranty is gone, even though the pads only lasted
14K miles. This really sucks.........................

Re: 44K and new brakes again
I fully expect to do just that in 15K miles. The service advisor
did say that the replacement rotors were thicker than the
original 2003 ones and that they should last longer.....
we will see..................

Re: 44K and new brakes again
Obviously you mash the brake pedal twice as frequently per mile as those that get 30,000 miles on pads.
Since the 90 Q [which had soft fast wearing excellant stopping pads 129 feet for a 4300 pond loaded car], we saw a 2:1 variation between drivers in the same city.......some wore pads at 15,000 miles, some [lasted to 30,000 miles] with the average at 20-24k...........those drivers that ate pads ate tires at a similiar rate!
The absolute worst abusers were women real estate agents, who seemed to brake at every other house.
Keep track of your applications per mile.
You should be able to find harder [asftermarket] pads that will come close to factory stopping distances [+10 feet] and last longer but they will store more heat [that would have shed away with the material]..........rotors may warp at little faster?
Nissan is reluctant to harden pads and increase stopping distances while the magazines are still testing the G35......as the change could be thought of as substituting a ringer.
If the Q is any indication 3 model years later there were special pads available for special driving situations.
-U90,-U91,-U93..............each with about a 8 foot longer progressive stopping power and different noise and dust characteristics.

Re: 44K and new brakes again
Normally I think Q45 Tech is too easy going a driver for the rest of us fast paced people. But this time he is right. I just replaced my brake pads on my car, not because I needed them but because i hit 36,000 miles and I don't need the damn warranty anymore. I drive very hard and am rough on my brakes, but they still last a long while. I still had 0.28" till I was out of pads on my worst set
So i have metal matrix pads on there with far less dust.
I will run these in the summer and OEM in the winter.
By the way for brake parts for your car, front and rear pads are about $70 total, front and rear rotors are about $200.
you would have saved 200 dollars if you did it yourself. Just a thought.

Easy going? Compared to who?
I've used Axxis MM for the past 10 years [changed every 2 years] as front pads [experimented with 3 other brands ugh!] for my Q.........had 4 sets of Powerstop rotors, metal brake lines. JWT ecu/tcu, Custom homemade intake mods, 20 mm rear sway bar 29mm front..........on tranny number 3, 2nd diff, 3rd drive shaft, changed Tokico Blue shocks 4 times, 4th exhaust system.....had Stillen, Stromung, now back to 1995 oem [wrecked car take off].
Driving the same Q45 since June 1990 [266,000 miles].
14.8/96-97mph [end of 2nd gear] in quarter on a cool day thanks to 7300 rpm redline, still 5.4 seconds 50-80 mph rolling ----- same as it took in 1994 [48,000 miles] after ecu/tcu/exhaust mods installed.

Re: 44K and new brakes again
I retrue my rotors every 6-7,500 miles, relube my slider pins, and change pads every 18-20 months [20-23k]......Powerstop rotors last me about 42,000 miles considering the 6 fine retrues and 0.003 x 2 fine cuts each time. Use Castrol Syntec fluid and flush annually and Accuturn hub runout shims to set rotors/hubs to 0.001" at each retruing.
All this whinning about G35 brakes my Q takes 2+ times as much servicing to maintain oem specs........4300 pounds with me and full tank.
Infiniti used to use the phrase " Own one and you'll understand"........unfortunately many did. Brakes [and tires]designed for the easy average driver don't hold up to aggressive drivers.

Re: 44K and new brakes again
Wow, you guys are fast. I had my rotors and pads all replaced twice so far and some of you are on the third round. This is fun. I get to take the car to the track and still get free brakes...jokes!

It's still a G thang!!
