Yes, you read that right. I want to know if it will be safe for street use, sometimes spirited/aggressive driving, with the tire specific size of 235/40/17. I have two Michelin PS2's, that I would love to put on but I know it is wider than normal, the tire itself looks wider than I've seen in the past.

AND, more SPECIFICALLY, I was going to run a staggered setup on the stock 17x7 wheels.

Front: 225/45/17
Rear: 235/40/17

Is that safe....or stupid?

you rear tire would be shorter than your front tire, and neither is tall enough compared to stock...

Yeah, i know the rear would be shorter but hopefully not tooo much. I also know that neither is tall enogh compared to stock, I've been running 235/45/17 all around with good results as well as 225/45/17 all around with good results (just a bit more stiffer and bouncier due to overall smaller diameter and sidewall)

Shoooooot, I hope this might be alright. Are there any other sedan owners running funky tire sizes on oem wheels?

Alright, I just got them mounted today and if the didn't fit well or look right or ride right, I was going to take them off. But after driving about 30 miles today both street and highway, even in the rain!, everything seems ok, WOW. I kind of felt, IMO, that Michelin does make an seemingly thinner width than other manufacturers. And yes, I am running them staggered - 225/45/17 Falken 912 front and 235/40/17 rear - they surprisingly look almost the same size. These PS2's don't bulge out far but look normally square, slightly providing rim protection. Even though I need a major 4 wheel alignment!, they feel good and the only bad thing I feel is highway speed sharp turns feel different but that may be due to the bad alignment, staggered setup, or the mushy falkens.
