Lots of questions, what tires, tire pressure issues
Hello all,
Got a few questions for you. I have been having issues with my '05 G35 coupe with 18" stock rims (bought it in '07). Last year and half my rear tires have been deflating especially in cold conditions. Sometimes they can lose 10+ PSI per day!
The dealship where I bought the car states that there is nothing wrong. They have been sticking to the story ever since the problem started. Now they are telling me, "You need new tires, they are tread is getting low." Well no crap Sherlock, since they are constantly losing air and tread wear is uneven.
I personally thought it is the tire pressure monitor system acting up, but dealship refuses to do anything about it. They put it in the water tank, did a soap test, reassembled the whole wheel assemly, however no leaks can be found.
This is still under warranty and I bought the tire/wheel protection package. But they are telling "We can't find anything wrong, so we can't do anything for you. By the way, you need new tires." Tires were just dandy when this problem started. I really do not know what to do.
I asked if I were to buy new tires, and this problem persisted, would they do anything? They replied "If we cannot find anything wrong, we won't." Grrr!
Has anyone else had this problem? I would appreciate any advice.
Secondly, could anyone give me a tire recommendation?
I took a look on Tirerack and found these two:
Continental ExtremeContact DWS
Goodyear Eagle GT
What do you guys think about those?
Basically I am looking at high performace all season tire, since I drive the car all year round in north VA (sun, rain and snow).
I'm looking at size 225/45R18 in front and 245/45R18 in the rear.
And finally, can I put a 255/45R18 tire on the rears for stock 18 rims?
Thank you very much for all the help and the advice. I did some searches, but didn't get too much info I wanted.
Kind regards,
JX

A couple of good choices there. I would say the Continentals, overall, are the better value of the 2. I voted 'other' only for the sake of pointing out that the General Exclaim UHP ( I think the best value for the money) and Kumho Ecsta ASX are also very good in the same price range.
Cheers
PS - I would not drive on any of these in the snow!
