oem 19 tire size problem

I am in need of new tires as my oem bridgestones (at 15k) are going bald. Now I want to keep the oem sizes, (most of my searching yeilded info on putting larger sizes). I get a discount at yokohama and am getting a great deal on the new sdrive. The problem is they don't come in 225 40 19 (front) only in 225 35 19. The rears do come in the stock size.

Will this setup be ok to run without screwing up my vdc? If not I have to get the advan sport, but costs about 80 more a tire...

Thanks for any help!

Probably won't do too much with the VDC but hard to say - that's a decent size differential.

Any reason why you don't want to go different from stock sizes? A 245/35/19 in the front would also work.

Have you played around with a tire size calculator before?
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

3.4% difference in what you suggested which is exceeds most recommendations. If you have to change the front that much, I would probably do the same to the rears to keep VDC happy.

The only reason is to get a deal on the yokohamas. I'd prefer to keep it stock, so I am not going to do this. Not sure why the don't make this particular size...

And a tiny sidewall.

That's a good size.

i missed this... lol but what would I run in the back? 255 35 19?

I am hoping in the next few weeks to get some wheel spacers, 15/20 and then perhaps a prokit . not wanting the rub monster to come lurking about.

You could just stick with your stock rear tire size of 245/40/19.

If you want more width, the 255/35/19 and 265/35/19's would probably be your best bet - bear in mind that both those sizes are a bit shorter than the stock rear tire though.

There are swarms of us running 245/35/19 front with 255/40/19 on the rear (countless threads here on the topic). The reason for this is those sizes open up a much larger variety of available tire brands and models while remaining well within the 3% tolerance (1.2% to be exact) from stock. The little extra width obviously helps traction and you're not pushing your luck with trying to go too wide on the OEM Rays. The 245 width on the front looks much more natural than the stock 225 width which creates a sidewall that angles in from the rim to the tread. The only complaint you'll see with this is slightly more steering effort required due to the additional contact patch up front. I barely noticed it.
