Staggered tires question

can I use my 18x8.5's to put staggered tires on my sedan? with 18x8.5 all around. Please help.

say if I put 245/40/18 in the front and 275/40/18 in the back, or other combinations.

Thanks,
Buche

Re: Staggered tires question

go to the tire manufacturers website and take a look at the overall diameter of the tire. each tire will be slightly different depending on the manufacturer. and then compare that with the stock tires. thats how i did it. mine is a bit off, but everything works fine.

Re: Staggered tires question

Do you have to do staggered, I know some think the staggered look is cool and and all but you'd be better off performance wise to stuff as large a tire as you can in the front and go with the same tire in the rear.http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0404scc_350z No reason you can't do 255's all the way around. Still waiting for a 265 equipped sedan on all 4's. But maybe performance is not what your into, I dunno. 255's would be just fine with 8.5" rims. Also 350Z's that have gone away from staggered tire heights have reported reduced ABS performance, taking a sedan to differing tire heights would likely have the same effect on ABS performance.

Besides what I bring up above and to address your quesion as asked, you'd be ok in the front, and people have run 275's on narrower then 8.5" rim width's, but in that instance it was because of SCCA class rules. I think it's one thing if your looking to run a wider tire on rims you already have, but if looking to buy a new setup, I would not run 275's on a 8.5" rim, you really need to run a 9.5" rim on a 45mm minimum offset in the back (I'd do 50mm offset myself).

Hope that helps.
