Tire & Wheel guys pls read...

Thanks for taking a peak.

I am just about to buy some wheels and tires and wanted to get a second (or third) opinion from the forum b4 I pull the trigger.

I am about to get a set of HP Racing EVO rims 18x8 front and rear with a 38mm offset. I am going to place 225/40-18
up front at 8" and 245/40-18 out back at 8.5". Will this setup work well? What will the extra 8mm of fitment do? I think it will move the wheel/tire out towards the wheel well a bit. I don't want the setup sticking out though.

All comments and corrections are welcome. Thanks!

I will try to answer your question since no one else has

If you are running a Coupe, I'd recommend running a staggered setup of wheels, not just the tires ... but this is up to you. The wheel will not stick out at all, as people have ran setups up to 20x10.5 +22 offset wheels that sit flush with the rear fender well. You will have no problems of it sticking out at all.

In any case, you could run a lot more aggressive of a setup on your G. 18x8 +38 is really mild!

Hope that helps.

I would suggest more aggressive offsets also. With an 8" wheel up front, something between +20 and +25. It will sit closer to the fenders and your wheel won't look like it's stuck too far into the wells. Also, go with a wider tire. At the minimum, 235 so you won't have a stretched look like stock. I'd recommend going with 245/40 in the front. 225/40 will be too small in terms of overall diameter. You'll also get better handling and braking performance.

In the rear, same thing with the offsets. In terms of tire size, go with either a 245/45 or even a 255/45.

That'll keep it close to the stock stagger and take a touch of understeer out as well.

In a Nutshell

I'm at work, and don't usually post when here.

Anyway. IMO, everything you've chosen is wrong. Blunt, I know, but true. The tire sizes would be OK if they were 45 series. The 40 series in those sizes, will be to small in overall diameter.

The offset is also wrong. No, they would not stick out, they will look pushed in, sort of like an old Plymouth. If you want a less agressive offset, go with +30mm in front and +34mm in back.

Re: Tire & Wheel guys pls read...

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate the feedback. I needed some honest feedback on what I was thinking of doing. I knew it wasn't perfect (or even decent) but I did not want to trust any of the people that have been trying to sell my the wheels and tires. I wanted the opinions of fellow G owners.

With the info posted above I am going to go back to the drawing board and try to come up with something better this time around

Let me know if you have anymore questions, or are interested in stepping up to some 19" Volks of the kind - I'll be more than glad to help you out.

Hey well first of all dont get them cause i have em =) Look at my setup, the +38 offest looks great on the G35 sedan and REALLY aggressive, ont he coupe it will be kind of "sunk"in the fender and will not look that great IMO, my friend pout them on her Z and took them off because they looked weird, also you may want to go staggered like 18x8 front and 18x9 rear, im running 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 with 245/35-19 up front and 275/30-19 rear, heres a pic of her Z with them.

Re: Tire & Wheel guys pls read...

Thanks for the pics. They do look sweet on your sedan. I definately see your point about the offset on the Z/coupe. From all the feedback I am definately getting some good ideas about what to do with my tire setup.

I have to find a good set of staggered rims and figure out what tire setup to run. Thx.

I think your best bet for rather inexpensive spoke style rims would be Axis Supermesh, the fitment is great for the coupe and the wheels are HOT!!
