Re: Help! Tire Sizes?

The "40" and "45" are aspect ratios. Meaning that the height of the sidewall is 40% and 45% respectively of the tire width. So a 245/45/18 would have a sidewall thickness of 110.25 millimeters. Ideally, you want to keep your overall tire diameter the same as stock when you put on bigger and wider tires. Otherwise your speedometer will be off and if your drive wheels are a different height, your overall gear ratio changes. If you want to get rid of wheel well gap, the best way to do that is to lower the car with either lowering springs or a full coilover set. However, if you lower your car more than about an inch you'll need to get a camber correction kit so you can keep your tires from being prematurely worn on the insides.
