I already have headlights that are black and I wanted to make the wheels a darker silver. I think a gunmetal would be a nice color to powdercoat beacuse I don't want to change the stock wheel. The above picture is of a stock 18" wheel that I made gunmetal in photoshop. What do you guys think? The look is growing on me but do you think it makes the car look dirty? I am also posting the origional picture below for comparision.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: Gunmetal stock 18's?
i think it looks awesome with gunmetal stock wheels. i'm very interested in doing it to my g.

i've seen this one silver g at my school (lehigh) with all skyline badges and gunmetal 18's. at first i'm like "aww man, clean your wheels once in awhile dude" then i got closer and i was just amazed to realize that it was powdercoated.

if you can find out some pricing info i just may be interested..

For me it's free because the company my uncle works for manfactures metal products and they have a full paint shop. He can get his friends to do them for me after hours.

Brake dust. It's no good if you have to walk up close to realize its not dust and that its been painted.

Why not try a combination with a pseudo polished lip look like this?

Re: Gunmetal stock 18's?
I would prefer that if they could do it. I'll ask IF they will do it for me for free. If I have to pay alot I'm just going to leave them silver.

From what I've learned on American Chopper, powder coating is a bitch long process. So I don't know how strong your connections are. You might be better off painting them gun-metal instead? If it looks bad, you could then remove the paint... slowly but surely.

Have you tried the bronze look? Or a darker gun-metal like this:

Re: Gunmetal stock 18's?
My uncle has a paint shop at his office... they professionally do the powder coating there. I don't want them too dark, just a little darker than stock to make my car sleeker. The silver sort of overpowers my headlights and stuff.

What about this? Option Three it's called If they can do it I will, if they can't I will just get them entirely gunmetal.

Re: Gunmetal stock 18's?
Are you gonna keep the center cap chrome? When do you plan on getting this done? I'd love to check them out before the winter cold hits. I plan on going for the look in my earlier photoshop for my winter setup.

Re: Gunmetal stock 18's?
I think it would look better a littler darker - I had my stock 17's powder coated black and I love them... it ran me about $200.00 for all 4 wheels and it only took 1 day... good luck -

So far if you guys want to read what the status of this issue is you can view it in the North East Forum

As of now I wanted to test a color before I actually put it on my car.
Here is the status of my powdercoat. No final decisions have been made at this time.
