New rims and Tire Pressure monitor
Re: New rims and Tire Pressure monitor
The G35's tire pressure monitor is a module connected to the other side of the valve stem. Most likely your new rims, (if you are talking about aftermarket), will not have proper clearance for you to move the modules over.
GM for example, implements the low-tire pressure monitor as a mathematical algorithm in the PCM that calculates the average circumference of the tires, based on the abs sensors. When it detects that the average circumference has dropped it lights up the warning lights. This system is compatible with pretty much any rim you throw at it. It's drawback, is that it needs about 1-10 miles to determine if the tire is flat, and 20-100 miles to determine that a tire is merely low on pressure. The G35's sensors, report pressure every minute when in motion, I believe, so it's more "real-time".

Re: New rims and Tire Pressure monitor
It usually means just going without the TPM system with the new wheels.
Some wheel designs might be able to accept the TPM sensor, in which case you could take the stock tires off the wheels, remove the TPM sensors, and use them on the new wheels.

Re: New rims and Tire Pressure monitor
i recently ran into this problem on my trip to baltimore from ny. after about 45 minutes of highway driving, the sensor light goes on. it is a bit annoying, but i just ignore it until i figure out wat to do with it.

Re: New rims and Tire Pressure monitor
I don't get it. Some with aftermarket rims and no sensor say the light goes off, some say both the light and the buzzer, some say nothing happens. Isn't there just an easier way such as pulling a particular fuse?

As long as the face of the modules lie relatively flat when mounted they will work just fine. Some aftermarket wheels have valve stems that stick straight up (at 90-deg. rather than ~45-deg.) ... those will not work properly, as there's a centrifugal switch inside the module that is activated only when the wheels generate enough speed. I've got them on my aftermarket wheels and the sytem works just as intended ... even tried to leak out the air below 26psi just to see if it trips the alarm ... and it sure did
One can also opt to not install the pressure sensor modules at all, but every once in a while, the low pressure warning light will illuminate (no buzzer) when the system does a periodic self test then goes away after some time. The warning light is not particularly annoying to most, however, since it's very small.
