Which tires to get depends heavily on your needs and driving style.

You really gotta educate yourself and decide what you want in terms of performance, grip, wear, price, ride quality and other factors

yeah, i know that. but just curious what tires is popular here.

for the falken i selected is because it seems to have a lot of good reviews. and it's cheap.

Many tires are popular, many tires are popular because they're inexpensive, but being popular or cheap shouldn't be reasons to get a particular tire. Educate yourself and get what works for you. I have 2 sets of tires that very few others seem to have, but they've both been awesome for me. Bridgestone RE760 Sports for the summer and Nokian WR G2's for the winter.

It would help if you told us what kind of budget you have and what you need the tire to do. BTW, "as little as possible" and "everything" are not valid answers.

around 120$ per tires. i am just using for daily commute. i prefer good traction and can last around 30k miles with decent wet traction as well. it doesn't snow just occasionally rains. don't really have anything problem with noise part yet. i wouldn't put that into consideration.

Go to Tire Rack and do some searching for your size (215/55-17 I believe). That will give you some idea of what's out there in your price range. Don't forget to factor in shipping and installation, those can add another $130+ to your purchase price. Many times it's cheaper to go to a local tire store to get the same tire and have them install it. They don't have to make money on the tires and the installation, so often times they'll cut the price to get your business.

EDIT: Don't be surprised if you find you have a limited selection with your budget. $120 per tire is about the bare minimum without getting into the really crappy tires like the Chinese Ling Long's.

It's funny when guys drop $10k on a supercharger, BBK, fancy suspension, etc....and then cheap out on tires.

Theynare the only part of the car that touches the road, so they are critical for many reasons.

Btw, this was not directed to the op...just in general

OP,

I think you've gotten good advice here. If I were in your shoes, I'd read Consumer Reports, Tire Rack and Discount Tire reviews and then begin to thin down your selection. Here you'll have a few opinions whereas there will be hundreds on these sites.

I owned the Falkens 912's and they lasted around 17K miles, which is very low considering I drive like an old man in a hat (very slow, easy, never push the car-- I know, what a waste of power). The tires had excellent traction in wet and dry, were very quiet and comfortable, but were dangerous in ice and snow and spongey when cornering (but then again, I have 235/55/17's on the front and 245/55/17's on the rear of my 04 sedan). Others I've spoken to also have noted the spongeyness even on much lower profile tires. They have low rolling resistance, so you might be able to squeeze good mpg's out of them. I would not buy them again, but I live in the NE. By the way, my average mpg on the Falkens was 28-30 highway and 21-24 city (all other things being equal)-- and this is in extremely mountainous terrain.

Interestingly, you'll find reviews to be a curious thing, for example, the Hankook H418 gets extremely low reviews on Tire Rack and high reviews on Discount Tire. Years ago, Consumer Reports rated Dunlops very high, and yet the tread design suggested they wouldn't work on anything besides dry a road-- so tire sales remained low for the brand they touted.

My needs are only safety (1st b/c I have kids), quiet, comfort and treadlife-- others have different demands that may require different tires. AS others have said, see what you needs are first-- money is secondary when it comes to safety in my book. For example, you may find that some Michelins will stop 12-16ft before other lower quality tires will, that's a critical piece of info to have when buying, especially if you have kids.

Good lck and I hope this helps.

I got the Conti DWS since I drive mostly highway and wanted good long lasting tire and good wet traction, this tire is great. It does have soft sidewalls, but other then that there are no problems.

It has great dry traction and amazing wet traction I was smiling ear to ear when I floored it on a right turn in the wet and my car didn't get out of hand like they did with my other tires.
