Tire Size Help

Hey guys need some help with tire size for rears, I have an 03 G35 coupe, currently running 20x10 et35 in the rears, current tire size is 255/35/20 but blowing one tire i am looking at increasing the tire size, will 285/30/20 fit the rears without rubbing? I am on stock suspension as well. Any input or help would be greatly appreciated.

Why are you getting one with less sidewall? Your rims would be sticking out more, if anything it should be 285/40/20. Since your on stock, 285 should not rub

oh sorry the reasoning behind the tire size is the deal i was getting, what is the most ideal tire, the previous setup had a lot of stretch on the rim and i am concernred that was the reason it blew in the first place

If your problem is the stretch, try increasing the 2nd number (its the sidewall width). My wheel in the rear is 20x10.5 on a 255/35/20 tire and im stretching it. Try 255/45/20?

no he should not be going with a 285/40/20 He should be going with a 285/30/20. You decrease the sidewall aspect ratio when you are increasing the width. The "30" or "40" number for the sidewall is a percentage of the width.

285/30/20 will fit without rubbing if you're stock, but the wheels will look like they are sticking out much more than the 255/35 you currently have because the tire won't be stretched anymore.

You really need to read up on tire sizes and their nomenclature because you are giving horrible advise that can throw someones whole setup off.

Not trying to be a d!ck, but you should read this before giving tire advise.

With really rough roads, 20" rims are never going to be comfortable, no matter what size you go with.

That said the 255/35/20 size you went with is pretty close to the stock diameter, and if you want to go wider, the 285/30/20 size is a good size as well. Your sidewall on both tires are both about the same height though so the ride is going to be very similar. A 295/30/20 would also fit.

If you want to punch in some alternative tire sizes, try here:

275/35 tire would be best for you. It wont be a bulge like a 285 tire and you wont have any clearance issues, if you decide to lower your vehicle later.

thanks for the input guys, i understand the ride will still be the same however i am curious as to which tire size will provide the least amount of stretch, i think that was my problem last time when my tire blew out.
