putting coupe rims with snow tires on my sedan?

A guy local to me on craigslist (http://binghamton.craigslist.org/cto/2018976925.html) is selling his winter rim/tire set from his g35 coupe. I have a 2005 6mt sedan with the optional 18s currently and the sizes he is listing I'm pretty sure won't work with my car but I wanted to check here.

He states in his ad:
Front: 225 50 R17
Back 235 50 R17

I think currently I am 235/45/18 (correct me if i am wrong), but is it ok for me to run different sized front/rear tires, when my car isn't set up for this?

also he's asking 500, is that a good deal for the set? the rims are nothing special, just sport edition (the brand) 17s and the tires look like they have a lot of tread left (blizzaks).

Thanks for the help. Other than these, does anyone have any cheap/good snow tire recommendations.

You will probably be able to fit the 17" wheels on the car, but the staggered coupe setup is not a good idea for the VDC system, as it could cause it to act strangely, especially in slippery conditions.

The 235/50-17 rear set is a good size match for 235/45-18, but you'd want to replace the front set with 235/50-17 as well to match the rears. 8k miles is a fair amount of mileage on snow tires, BTW, so you might be able to negotiate a bit and use the money saved to get new fronts.

IMHO, for winter duty, it would be better to run a skinnier tire out back to match the front's dia then to run a fatter tire in the front to match the rears. ie.. running another 225-50-17 would be the better choice.

But the size difference on the tires he has is only 1.5%. He wouldn't have a problem running those staggered sizes from a diameter standpoint.

Good point. 225/50-17 out back is a better option and you wouldn't have any stagger, so the VDC wouldn't have problems.

I've run a stagger on my sedan with a 2.4% difference with no problems. OEM coupe 19s on my G sedan.

IMHO, he could run exactly what he has now with no problems

well i put them on as they were (225/50/17 front, 235/50/17 rear) and they were fine driving home yesterday, but this morning (at 4 am) on my 1.5 hour drive to the airport the speedo went to 0 on the highway and the VDC and SLIP lights came on. luckily i had gps telling me my speed, but im thinking this means i need to equalize the tires between front and rear.

Jeff92se I'm not sure what year you have that the stagger worked on, but i'm sad to say it appears it makes the computer unhappy in my car. I'm going to reset the ECU when I get back in a week and hope that it works until I can get home and order new tires.

I am surprised that this happened though because the speedometer worked totally fine on my way home from the shop, so is it possible this issue will go away with an ECU reset? I also know my brake fluid is low, which was triggering the SLIP, VDC, and BRAKE lights earlier in the week.

Any suggestions are appreciated

thanks guys

An out of range stagger won't make teh speedo go to zero. I think you have a different problem

any idea what that might be? i mentioned the other lights going on was most likely a brake fluid problem, but i dont know how that could explain the speedo issue?

any help is appreciated, thanks
