Less expensive 19 inch mesh wheel options?

I really like the Volk SF Winnings but was wondering if there were other, less expensive options out there?

Does anyone know of a mesh wheel in a 19 inch diameter that will fit over the Brembos on my coupe that aren't as expensive as the Volks?

Even better, does someone want to sell me their 19 inch Volks in mecury silver, with tires for $2500 or less? ;-)

Re: Less expensive 19 inch mesh wheel options?

I love the Axis supermesh wheels, but I thought you had to use spacers to make them work? From the specs I've seen on the axis wheels they only come in 35mm offset for the 8.5's and 45mm offset for the 9.5's, so I didn't think they'd clear the brembos.

I've never used spacers and some people say that they aren't good to use. I'd be all over the supermeshes if I felt that I could get some good quality spacers.

Kyeguy82, do you know where to get good spacers?

How about ADR M-Sports, although it seems that the offsets are also 35mm for the 19's, or Racing Hart C4s (no idea what offsets are offered)? G/L

If you get the proper hubcentric spacers with new studs,
they are safe to use. Check out H&R's site. It when people
use up to 5mm width without changing studs...that's very
dangerous.

Zoom750,
I looked at both of the wheels you mentioned. The C4's are very very nice, but on the same price level as the Volks.
The M-Sports are another option, if I'm going to use spacers, but if I'm going to do that, the Axis wheels would be my choice.
Thanks for the feedback though.

Re: Less expensive 19 inch mesh wheel options?

kenchan,

Now I'm a little confused. It seems like there are two solutions out there depending on how much of a spacer you need.

First, I suppose there are simple spacers which just fit over the studs and move the wheel out, depending on the thickness of the spacer. I understand your comment that when these start getting too thick that you need to install longer studs to make sure you get enough engagement on the lug nut.

I've also seen spacers that bolt to the existing studs and have new studs in them. I would suspect that these are for very thick spacers, or you'd have to use shorter studs into the spacer. I suspect that I wouldn't need something like this to make the Axis wheels work.

If someone (kyeguy82?) could tell me which spacers I need to make the Supermesh wheels work, with any other details like if I need new studs and what length, I would appreciate it.

The other thing about spacers is stuctural.

You are moving the applied force to the wheel bearings causing excess leverage & wear.

Re: Less expensive 19 inch mesh wheel options?

inTgr8r,

Ya, I read that people were concerned about increased wheel bearing wear. I'm not sure how serious this is, since putting bigger wheels and tires can do basically the same thing and most people don't seem to suffer bearing problems due to that.

I'm also wondering about unsprung mass. I looked up the H&R spacers and they're made of aluminum. I don't know how the Axis wheel weights compare to the Volks, but I'd like to keep the whole setup as light as possible.

Either buying wheels is more complicated than I realized, or I'm just making it more difficult than it should be. My only thought is that if I'm going to spend a couple thousand bucks I want to make it right.

Re: Less expensive 19 inch mesh wheel options?

I have some spacers on my VW raddo, 8mm believe it or not to clear the H&R coilovers. The H&R spacers are made out of aluminum and magnesium and are rediculously light, seriously they weight next to nothing and have very little affect on rotational mass to get spinning. But I do have to agree with the opinion that they put more stress on the bearings.

Re: Less expensive 19 inch mesh wheel options?

So I'm getting to the point that I just need to step up and get the Volks and not worry about the price.

Looking around at prices on the net, I'm seeing the Axis wheels with tires costing a little less than $2500. Adding in wheel spacers would run about $280 for the parts and maybe$50-100 to have them installed (new longer studs). Now I'm up to almost $2900.

The guy from "revhighonline" gave me a price for the Volks that is less than $200 over that. With that combination I don't have the wheel bearing issues because they come with the perfect offset and I'm getting the feeling they are better quality than the Axis wheels.

Thanks for the feedback and helping me think this thing through.
