Widest tire size on oem 17 inch

Okay I'm cheap and don't want to purchase new rims. I thought about it, but its more money than I really want to spend. Currently I have stock 6 spoke 17 inch chrome wheels on my coupe. I was just wondering what is the widest tire you can run on the 17x8 wheel? And I was also wanting to know if anyone has ever put spacers on with oem 17's, and if so what size spacers? I tried to do a search on this already but couldn't find anything, perhaps some of you can help me out. I'm just looking for a little wider tire in the rear and for the wheels to be a little more flush.

Your wheels should be 17"x7.5" front and 17"x8" rear I believe.
If so you could do 225/50/17 and 255/45/17. I wouldn't go wider than 255, 245 would be better imo.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering whether 255 would fit or not on 17x8.

There are many deals on wheels if you keep your eyes out for them.

I have the 6 spoke Coupe 17's on my car and I am running a 255/45/17 in the back. I kind of like the way it looks. I have the Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires and the sidewalls are prettymuch straight up with that tire size (no tire stretch).

You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of it would you. I'm yet to see one with the 6 spokes and wider tires. What size tires are you running up front?

I will try to get some pictures up tomorrow afternoon. I am still running the 225/50/17 up front. This results in a tire diameter of 25.9 up front and 26.0 in back. I looks "almost" stock from some angles and then at other angles you can really tell it isn't...

Ok, so here are a couple of pictures of my setup. It would probably look a lot better with a g/z drop, but this is our daily driver so we decided to pretty much keep it mostly stock. Sorry I don't have any better pictures, but I cant seem to find most of the pictures we took of her; just some from the last two auto-cross events I attended and one time I was messing around in the snow (too bad the car wasn't clean for that picture too).
