5AT needs new rear tires @18K. Suggestions?

I need new rear tires, and I thought I would ask what the consensus is for good tires for an 04 5AT w/ 17s. I want to go with 245s, I just don't know what brands have been found to be good. I live in Atlanta, so snow traction isn't a big deal to me. I want a good all around tire that will wear well, be good in the rain, and perform well, in that order.

jesus howd u go through the 17s in 18k miles on an auto? I thot that since the 17s werent "sport" tires.... they were supposed to last longer. I was thiking of letting my mom have my 18's when i get my new wheels in.... but decided against it cause of tread life and price of replacement tires.... but i dunno now (she has g35x with 17's)

Wow, I have 25K on my original 18" Pilot Sports and still going strong. How did you do go through them so fast? Donuts?.

I say just look on TireRack and do the research yourself. You can choose what type of tire you're looking for and read the ratings/reviews they have for each tire.

I am pretty amazed that you went through the 17"s that fast. I know a couple people who have gone 30K+ miles on those tires. I am just going over 20K and my 18" Michelins are bald already.

some people "need" new tires when they get close to the indicators... some people wait til the tires are near bald. RSAs are known to get pretty slippery after 12k, regardless of treadlife.. or he could have inflated to the recommended pressure, which will prematurely wear the center.

If RSA-s are what came on the stock 17's, then I'd recommend replacing them no matter what mileage you have. My other car came with that, and those are biggest POS tire I've ever used. I replaced it with Yokohama AVS db tires. Much quieter, and much grippier at the same time. (Not to mention cheaper) Was noticeably harder to do burnouts with the yokos, and no tire squeel on aggressive corners, compared to the howling RSA-s. The RSA-s I also thought were down-right scary in the rain. The yokos allowed me to drive in the rain in confidence. Pretty decent snow traction too, as it's never stranded me in the snow, and I have driven them through 8 inches of unplowed snow before.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 235/50/R17. Best performance for all season rain & snow. They're not cheap at about $200 a piece, but you pay for what you get. Also, the OEM tires are useless.

Re: 5AT needs new rear tires @18K. Suggestions?

I just replaced all 4 tires with Pilot Sport A/S's at 19k miles. I had a nail in the sidewall of one of the rear RSA's, and it wasn't patchable, so instead of replacing one or two RSAs, I replaced all 4 tires with the Michelins. Both the Infiniti dealer and the tire dealer told me I would be lucky to get 25k miles out of the Goodyears anyway. They were showing a lot of wear at 19k miles. The Michelins are great. Much quieter, better grip, and they track much straighter. They don't look as aggressive as the Goodyears, but they drive much better. Unfortunately, if you choose to go with the Pilot Sport A/S's, you'll need to replace all 4 because the tread pattern doesn't match the RSA's well enough to mix them.
