Ok guys i decided to paint the inner part of my wheels black, as i doing research online i found out Dupi Color makes a kit called " shadow black chrome" which basically you can paint over chrome and gives it a black tint, the more coats the darker it will come out .My question is what would i need to do to my chrome wheels as far as prepping for the paint to stick to the wheel? ill post a link to the exact product im talking about

I tried the link and it does have applications directions on the site...Now that being said..i personally cant see anything really sticking to chrome unless- A--you remove the chrome cause chrome does chip and then your work becomes road dust, B rough up the surface so the paint has something to "bite" into....C i dont like chrome wheels to begin with...just my opinion....Hope others have suggestions...Good luck, let us know how you make out.

I wouldn't mess with refinishing wheels myself.
You're better off having them done professionally.
It's not like touch up paint for the rest of the car, wheels can take a real beating.
So the finish on them needs to be uber tough.

Think about it... the idea is a transparent paint that tints the surface beneath it black. Therefore if you do ANY prep then you are going to lose the reflectiveness of the chrome.

IMO, prime it with a self etching primer then spray it flat black and be done with it. you're painting it black to hide it not to make it stand out.

It has 2 parts to it. Base and clear so it should hold up. I haven't tried it but I've seen it

I used it this past weekend it worked nice i used 5-6 coats to give a really dark look. Only thing is it has a green effect to it also after that many coats. 2-3 coats for most people.

I would just prep the area by cleaning it thoroughly to make sure there wasn't anything on the surface that wouldn't allow the paint to adhere well. In their tips section on the right hand side they have a few pointers that seem helpful, although I believe it's more of a general help PDF file. It mentions making the surface a bit more rough to get the paint to stick, but obviously this won't work with chrome haha.

Cleaning is the only prep needed

Duplicolor also makes an adhesion promoter this is basically a clear primer. Clean the surface good and apply.

If you paint them over time it will fade by the sun. If you can, put a clear coat on it
