Iforged clearcoat chipping
Iforged clearcoat chipping
I have had my iforged rims for about 5 months now and the clearcoat has started to chip on all of my rims. I was wondering if any of you iforged owners are having any problems with them.
I did and they said that "but if the chipping is coming from the centercap or the lug bolts we can not warranty it." I had sent another email asking them to clarify why not and currently waiting for a reply. This to seems to me to be very poor quality due to the price I had paid for them.
I have Iforged wheels and have experienced some de-lamination of the clear coat in the lug holes as well as on the back of the wheel which contacts the hub. The problem is not visible though and to fix would be a PITA to dis-mount the tires and ship the wheels back to Iforged to get fixed.
Part of the problem I think is that (in my case anyways) they spray on the clear too thick and with warm up / cool down cycles of the wheels during driving, the clear may de-laminate in these areas.
If the problem gets to the point where it is noticable, I would probably get the wheels re-finished locally.

I have a slight chip on one of my wheels where the center cap goes. I noticed a small crack there which I thought was some dirt. When I went to pick it off, a chunk of paint came off! It's not really noticeable. If it gets any worse (which I don't really expect) I will chrome my wheels.
chipping right here
I'm chipping pretty bad on the two fronts..
I'm going to chrome them in the future..

I have had my rims on for about 8 months now. I am chipping on all four rims. I spoke to Vince a couple months ago and was advised to ship them back and thereafter Iforged would investigate and assign fault - (finisher or consumer). Even though I knew the finisher was at fault (chipping was starting at the lip and moving to the face), I decided I did not wish to incur the substantial shipping expense. Nor, did I want I forged to keep my rims for god knows how long. Instead, I will probably have them re-coated or chromed locally.
If I had known about the quality of there rims, I would definitely would not of bought them. Unfortunately, the chipping started out small on one rim and now all 4 of mine have got it. I will as well probably have to get these rims fixed myself and would have to WARN those who will buy iforged rims.
We have some clearcoat problem but all wheels left our factory in perfect condition (We inspect every single wheel). Our standard clearcoat is being done by Speedway who happens to be the same clearcoat finisher for many other higher priced wheels (Shall remain nameless but we all know who they are).
Yes. There are a lot of repeating noise on the web about iForged. But my total complaint inbox for this year is a grand total of 5 customers. One of the customer complaint was about clearcoat. When we inspected the wheel there were tool marks where the clearcoat cracked.
Bare standard clearcoat is nice but it is not as strong as on painted surface so now we also offer duraclear clearcoat. Also, we have always offered powdercoat clear as an option. Clearcoat will chip if not properly taken of during the install process, caused by impact guns. This has happened also to higher price wheels due to careless installers.
We now have a new duraclear clearcoat option that is more expensive, but will not de laminite or flake, so it is protected from tire shops that use impact guns, or force center caps in.

I-forged=Bad quality. That's all I hear on this and other sites. If this is repetative why don't they just offer the powdercoat clear as standard? I hear it is really strong and you can't scratch it very easily.
