TPMS light
TPMS light
I need some help with a TPMS issue, and would prefer not to have to go to the dealer.
I live in Canada, on the east coast, I have a 2004 G35x. I have a set of winter and summer tires and rims both have TPMS sensors. I had the new rims installed at a garage(they updated the sensors). The TPMS light is out unless you drive over 40-60 KM ( 25-38 miles). I have checked the pressures of all the tires, and they are all around 32 psi. I thought maybe it was the new sensors, yet when I install the winter rims and tires(original sensors), it does the same. Does the computer check someting at this distance since it seems quite specific of a distance, and this is at 110+ kms/hr.
If you shut off the car and start it again the light is off, until you exceed the above mentioned distance. Initially I thought it may be low pressure, yet when I stop and check the pressures they are all good. I figured since I was going to have the car a while and the swapping of tires twice a year. I purchased a Combo set [URL="http://www.racingking.ca/tpms-tools-quickset-vt30-combo-p-71.html"] ATEQ. This set allowed me to read the codes from the sensors, and change the TPMS sensor codes. which I did when I installed the summer wheels. (not sure why hyperlink does not work)
Yet the light still comes on. I was wondering if any of you may know what is causing the light to come on only after the 40-60km. It does not blink, or no tone. ( I seem to recall when the tires are actually low the light flashes and a beep.
Again I want to mention all the tires are 32 psi, just this past weekend I checked the spare it was low so I bumped it up to 32, went for a drive and the light came back on.
I have also reentered all five wheels on the computer, since the spare one was missing. When I trigger the individual sensors I get the code and the psi.
I was just hoping someone may have a thing to try, I just hate to take it to the dealer 2x a year for this.
The new rims and sensors were purchased from tire rack and they look awesome.

I asked our TPMS guy here and he says,
Most 2002-2006 Nissan/Infiniti models need their TPMS serviced by the dealer; his model is one of them. The Quickset he bought won’t work even though Ateq says it should. We don’t know the exact reasons on why, just that they often require a different tool (doesn’t plug into the OBDII port).
Hope that helps.

Now I am really confused. I trigger the sensors with the VT30 noted the codes. Connect the quickset to the OBD connector it downloaded the original sensor information. I updated (or so I thought) to the new sensors it seemed to upload, since when I download the information it was the new info? I have contacted Ateq and the place I bought the tools. I will await their info.
I love this forum.
I found these articles. I tried the autoatlantic.com method to put the computer in learning mode, then using the VT30 I triggered the sensors. the TPMS light reacted as per the information. Now I just need a drive to see if it is corrected.

I just used a wire connected to an aligator clip to the ground and contacted the pin 5-6 times until the TPMS light flashed.
The information came from this link.

There is a tool you can buy to trigger the learning mode.
The tool I saw on line was by OTC however it just has a fancy trigger. For 25 bucks I can be the trigger. LOL

I hope this works, and I also sent the information to the seller of the Quickset.

nissan/infiniti is usually very easy to do an OBD reset as long as you have the right tool. we use the bartec & itm tools here. I would recommend you test all the sensors with your tool to make sure they are transmitting correctly for your make/year/model
