Brake Dust

Re: Brake Dust
I’m just dealing with it. When I wash it, I use a wheel cleaner and then put wax on the wheels to keep the brake dust from sticking to them. I’ve done this with my 911 for the past ten years and those wheels still look new.

I think at some point we will all be upgrading to low dust pads.

...without a doubt. But with the amount of highway miles I do (no traffic), this first set may last me quite a while. Lots of wheel cleaning still in my future.

Re: Brake Dust
i have lots of brake dust too. i noticed the other day while i was cleaning my wheels, that i also have lots of small black spots on my wheel. i originally thought it was just the break dust that i didnt clean off. but i just read a tsb that said that these black spots are caused by the cleaner i'm using on my wheels. heres the TSB:

When cleaning titanium finish aluminum wheels: · ONLY use aluminum wheel cleaner · Do NOT use chrome or wire wheel cleaners as surface discoloration may occur (e.g., black stains or spots)
anyone else notice these spots on their wheels? is there any way to get rid of them? theyre not that big or noticeable, but i would still like to get rid of them

Re: Brake Dust
XEcutioner,
I've been getting the same problems with spotting on the inner side of my rims also.
I live in the Toronto area so I removed the rims in mid November prior to our first snowfall.
My driving habbits are a combo of highway/city driving, so the brake dust buildup is a little heavier than some. When I went to put my rims back on, I too noticed that I had the spotting problem.
Since receiving the car, I have never used any wheel cleaner of any sort( until now). I've tried " Black Magic " wheel cleaner, but it doesn't remove any heavy deposits, just very light brake dust, and I still have to wash with a soft mitt.
The "Black Magic" wheel cleaner says that it is safe for all wheels.
