Brake Dust

G-men. Are you experiencing the same annoying brake dust problem. If so, have you did anything about it such as replace pads, disc etc...or just dealt with it.

Re: Brake Dust

I’m just dealing with it. When I wash it, I use a wheel cleaner and then put wax on the wheels to keep the brake dust from sticking to them. I’ve done this with my 911 for the past ten years and those wheels still look new.

Re: Brake Dust

Thanx W. I'm going to purchase some chrome wheels...and wondering how much work I have to put to keep them clean.

I think at some point we will all be upgrading to low dust pads.

...without a doubt. But with the amount of highway miles I do (no traffic), this first set may last me quite a while. Lots of wheel cleaning still in my future.

Re: Brake Dust

Weiren, what brand of wax do you put on your rims? How long does the wax last? Thanx.

Re: Brake Dust

I use the Meguiars I use on my car, but with a detergent as strong as wheel cleaner, no wax will stay on for very long.

Re: Brake Dust

I'm using the metal matrix offered by Stillen...they seem to work very well....hardly any brake dust...if at all.

Re: Brake Dust

XEcutioner,

I've been getting the same problems with spotting on the inner side of my rims also.
I live in the Toronto area so I removed the rims in mid November prior to our first snowfall.
My driving habbits are a combo of highway/city driving, so the brake dust buildup is a little heavier than some. When I went to put my rims back on, I too noticed that I had the spotting problem.
Since receiving the car, I have never used any wheel cleaner of any sort( until now). I've tried " Black Magic " wheel cleaner, but it doesn't remove any heavy deposits, just very light brake dust, and I still have to wash with a soft mitt.
The "Black Magic" wheel cleaner says that it is safe for all wheels.

Re: Brake Dust

I just had a pair of Rotex low brake dust pads installed on the front of my sedan last week. I didn't get much of a chance to test them yet, but will post more in a week or so.
