Wider wheels = more rockchips on rim?

Hi,

Recently I bought some new wheels they are:
19x10 +15 Front
19x11 +15 Rear

And recently I have notice a lot of little rock chips at the edges of the rim, it really pisses me off because I didn't scrap or scratched them.

I was just wondering if wider rims will cause more rock chips on the rims?

Well you'd naturally get more rock chips because the wheels are pushed out more, whereas your stocks were sunken in, completely covered by the fenders. Your new wheels simply don't have the protection that your stockies did.

Not to my knowledge. If it really bothers you then maybe you could get a 3m clear bra and shape it to your wheel lips. Haven't heard of anyone doing that though. Not sure if that would even adhere.

You have created this issue due to the size and offsets of your rims. Did your coupe come with "Splash Guards?" If not buying a set will help along with being aware of where you drive....Gary

^this. Even with splash guards through, you will find more dirtiness and brake dust on the portions of body panels right behind your well. Just have to clean more often...

Oh, i only have rear splash guard but I doubt it actudlly works.
I found out its much easier getting it after driving on freeways.

This post is entertaining and informational.

Yes. The more your wheels stick out, the more rock chips you will get.

Part of it probably is that by buying a cheap set of wheels, a cheap finish was used on them (I assume those are Varrstoen right?)

It looks like your wheel edge is sticking out further than the tire (maybe its the angle of the pic?). Is there a wider tire that could fit your wheels? May provide more protection that way.
