Fix A Flat?

I noticed that my back right tire was low. I go to put air in, and about 30 seconds into it....POP...and the tire goes completely flat. I was about 3 hours from home and luckily had a spare in my car. My question is, depending on severity, is it feasible to take the tire up to a shop and have them patch or fix it....or just buy a new tire? How long do 'patches' last?

Depends on the severity and location of the puncture. If its near the sidewall it won't be repairable but if its just in the middle you can get it patched or plugged.
