WTF happened to my tire ?

I had a 6hr drive yesterday ( 3hr each way ) and an hr into the drive i noticed my car shaking a bit and the tpms light came on , kept driving ... then on the way back ( 2hrs from home) it got really bad so i went out to check pressure and nuts tight and i didnt see anything. then today i pull all the tires and find the front passenger looking like this ...
4 days ago I stripped a stud on that wheel so i was running on 4 lug nuts , could that have caused the problem?

Im replacing the stud as we speak, but is this tire done for , i let the air out and it seems better shape wise

Wow never ever seen that lol. I really doubt the four lugs had anything to do with that. My guess is probably a defective tire.

That tire has trouble written all over it. Get a new one first thing.

I did that same thing on one of my old Civics. What causes that to happen? Is it just random or is this something that I/we can prevent?

Hitting a pothole can cause that, similar to a bulge on the sideway of a tire, or it could simply be a defective tire. If it has a warranty, I'd try that. Most good tire shops can easily tell the difference between a road hazard issue (pot hole) or a defective tire.

Exactly....^....that's a defective tire and should be replaced under warranty. Are you running the recommended pressure in your tires? Tire shops may see broken belts frequently but I've only seen this twice....Gary

This too is a problem....^....you shouldn't pay any attention to what the max psi on your tires are! We're supposed to run 35 psi in our tires, running 40 on a hot day and as far as you drove could be the reason this tire failed. Tire gauges for the most part aren't accurate, maybe you were really running 43 psi. Add a hot day on a long road trip you may have been close to maximum. Hit a few pot holes and you've wasted that tire. Run 35 psi, you'll enjoy driving your G much better and your tires will wear even!
