steering wheel serious vibration & tire question
Hi all,
i'm new here and just got my G only few days ago. i notice i cant drive pass70 because my steering wheel starts vibrating seriously. i get scared. i took it to NTB and the dude said he'l balance it and recomended i take these steps.
Replace all 4 tires
my right rear shocks was leaking
and my rear brakes are starting to wear out.
now can any of these cause the vibrations? what do you guys think i should do/consider?
Also where can i get cheap tires for? i just bought this car and you can understand i'm dead broke and i cant even enjoy this baby

I'm having similar issues, just bought my G coupe yesterday. I'm thinking maybe balance tires and alignment. The G I got has new brakes and Michelins on it and still vibrates pretty crazy at higher speeds. Although I did the 40 mph alignment check (take hand slightly off and brake) and it seems straight. I'm leaning toward at least a tire balance. I'm open to opinions as well!
First, get tires balanced. Might need to find a better shop than a chain like NTB though (unless know the guy).
Since it has aftermarket rims, make sure the wheels have hubcentric rings on them. It can feel like an unbalanced tire.

My buddy took a look at it and found my front outer tie rod end was worn out. i don't know if this would help but i'm seriously hoping it would fix this crap because what's the point of having a fast car and can't go pass 70. Anyways, i just ordered both inner and outer tie rod ends and rear suspension from ebay, so latest on Saturday i would have fixed it and would have an update for you guys.
I had bad vibrating exactly when my car reach 70+ MPH. It got bad I couldn't even hold the steering wheel and pretty much the entire car shook. I fixed the following and it rides smooth as ever even at 90MPH+, lol.
I think if you're steering wheel is shaking most likely it's from the front suspension. Coming from the seat and places like that it's the rear. I had both problems really bad.
Not saying this will fix your issue, but here is what I did and maybe give you some ideas:
Replaced all four rotors
I replaced both front calipers and one rear caliper due to pistons and pins being seized.
Replaced both lower ball joints
Replaced both lower control arms
Replaced all four struts and strut mounts
Replaced my hubcentric rings on my winter wheels. (I think this made the biggest difference)
Replaced one of my rims it was bent pretty bad
Alignment and balance of course.
If you have aftermarket wheels I would immediately check the rings first. I noticed that after doing all that prior work when I put the wheels back on the shaking would go away and then come back. They are a cheap and easy fix (~15 bucks) to try before moving onto more expensive and time consuming issues. If you have purchsed from TireRack before they might even send them for free you, since that was the case with me.

honestly, try a Belle Tire. I bought tires from there and literraly have had little things done here and there through them and they have been awesome. I normally would not take cars to them for really anything but tires but they turned my mind around about stuff like you are mentioning. I normally do everything myself, but due to the weather being SOOOO cold, i really don't feel like getting out there. they do completely free estimates and they stand behind everything they do 110% I would certainly get more opinions before just trusting one shop anyways
Any time you have vibration in your steering wheel the place to start is having your tires balanced. While they're being balanced have them check the tires for an "Out of Round" issue, generally caused by broken steel belts. (not uncommon) It never hurts to know your alignment is within specs, that and balance will allow your tires longer life! Always make sure you get a print out of your alignment and ask questions of the mechanic doing the job...it's like getting an education!
