volk gt7 - wheel question

i'm gonna go ahead and purchase some gt7's for my 6mt coupe. i was just wondering what size rims i should go for, the 8.5/9.5 or the 9.5/10.5. i've asked a lot of people and some say wider is better and some say not to go that route. any input would be appreciated.

Need to do a search on this topic. This has been discussed somewheres in this forum

However..it depends on what you are going to do with the car.

Wider wheels = larger tires = higher expenses
= more contact points = slower acceleration times (think I just spelt that wrong)
Good for a wider stance in appearance, only because you can mount wider tires to them.

Basically if your car is not going to be modified in the engine bay...then I would consider this mostly cosmetic.

Narrower rims = slighly smaller tires = cheaper costs
= smaller contact patch = a little quicker in acceleration due to less rolling mass

If you are planning to race the car in its stock form...then I would say that the 8.5/9.5 or 9.5 all around would be good.

If you want the look of a more aggressive stance and wider tires...then get the 9.5 and 10.5.

Comes down to preferance. Hell....just get the 9.5 and 10.5 rears.

well, most of the time you have to go 9.5/10.5 to get the widest lip and best stance - one exception though is the GT-7... you can run the 8.5/9.5 and have a great stance and a huge rear lip - that's what I recommend unless you are certain you want to run a 295 or larger tire in the rear (which is what I want to do eventually and the only reason I got the 9.5/10.5 combo - and because the 8.5/9.5 combo with the winnings has really weak lips )

as far as the acceleration between the two, is it noticeable? i'm leaning towards the 9.5/10.5 setup. are the bridgestone s03's 245/275 adequate?

Obviously you are not looking into the pure racing part of the equation...thus....nah...you probably wont really notice the slight lag. If you will be happier with the 9.5 / 10.5 combination...then it will be fine.

Bridgestone SO3's are one of the best out there. Make sure that you get them aligned though, those tires are soft. Look into the BF Goodrich's as well...the KDW 2's are very good as well and have a higher tread wear rating...I think that the tire is a little cheaper as well.

Did you get your wheels? I want to do the GT-7 in Diamond Black also.

19 x 9.5 and 19 x 10.5. Do you know if 255/35 front and 285/35 rear rub?
