06MT Coupe- 20" Rims

Question - I just (July) purchased an "05" 6MT Black G35 Coupe (loaded). I am in the process of putting 20" SSR-GT-3's (Tire Rack) rims all the way around. I am having difficulty getting the setup I want and would love some input from you guys. (Note - See below for my troubles running similiar 19" wheels on an 03 sedan).

First - The Tire Rack advertises that 20" SSR GT-3's will fit my coupe, 10.5-20's-275/30/20 Rear and 9-20's-245/30/20 front. Great, however, the only tire they stock/recommend is a Continental that looks more like a snow tire than a performance tire. In researching other tires I cannot find a front tire to match this setup (Rears are plentiful), except the Pirelli "P Nero-Zero" ( which is ok, but I want options). I thought of going to a 19" front rim (keeping 20's on the back) because front tire sizes are more available, however, the 19" SSR 9.0 are on back-order for 8 months, at least.

To compound the problem Pirelli has a disclaimer that some infiniti's (not sure which ones-I should find out?) running 20" rims with these tires might (emphasis on might since only a few cases have been reported) screw with the on-board tire monitor computer (not sure of the technical term) and not allow the vehicle to engage into gear under certain tire conditions.

Summary

1) I have the rear 20" SSR GT-3's sitting in my garage and want to get the remainder of my order done (front wheels and tires).
2) I want the SSR's to show off the soon to be installed Bembo's (However, I can switch if no solution can be reached)
3) What are the widest tires I can place on this coupe (i,e, 285/30/20 rear)?

History

I traded in an "03" G35 Sedan on this "05" coupe. I took the stock wheels/tires off the "03" sedan and placed 19" SSR-GT3 (Speed Star Racing-Tire Rack) and Bridgestone 03 Pole Positions (SSR 10.0x19-275/35/19 rear, & 8.5x19 -245/40/19 Front) on the sedan (These rims and tires are currently on my new coupe but are tucked under the wheel wheels so far that I want to upgrade). On the sedan I had to roll the fenders in the rear to keep the rear right tire from rubbing when hitting bumps. It did minimize the rubbing but did not entirely solve the problem. Never had problems with the left rear though.

Can I use these tire sizes with 20's

I have 10.5 rears and 9's for the front. Can I go to a 285/30/20 rear and a 255/35/20 front and fit the tires under the wells without rubbing?

As a former owner of SSR GT3 let me tell you that the offsets you have are going to look tucked. I have 20's with a 10.5 rim out back at +29. 245/35/20 is the correst size you need for the front but 255 will do just as well and provide better protection for your lip. 275/30 are fine for the rar I actually have the same size but I plan to change those to 285/30 as soon as they are thin. I had the same SSR on my 350 Z but the look did not translate to the G.

Tucked Look with 20's

Ok, so I think I am reading that

Rear - I can have 10.5 20's with 285/30/20 with a +43mm offset for the rear and will still have a tucked look.

Front - I can have a 9 20's with 255/30/20 with a +31mm offset in the front and will still have a tucked look.

Can I change the offset to push the rim and tire out a little farther?
What comparable rims can I run that will give my G a beefier look?

I already have the rear rims but still have time to return and get my money back. Any suggestions out there on other 20" rims and tires.

Yes, I'm telling you that my 10.5 20s with a +29 offset looks flush with the outer edge. To see my point go out and take off one of your rear wheels and put on your SSR. You will see what I'm talking about. Your fronts will be fine but still not that agressive looking. Remeber you need to get a 35 series not 30 for the fronts. You want to keep your wheels as close to stock height as possible to keep your speedometer on point. I sold my SSRs because they didn't look right with those offsets on my G. I now have a set of MAYAs. Do a search and you will find many of us with 20's that fit right. For the money you're spending on those SSRs at the minimum you should seek for a better fitment. The stock wheels are a +33 you should not purchase anything above that.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I think I have a good handle on the offsets now. I already have a set of 19" SSR's on the Coupe (came off the sedan) and they don't look that great. Since the 20's won't look much different I am returning the rear 20's I have and will look at some other wheels.

Thanks,

Therte is a sticky up top with numerous web site called "Where to find rims and tires" Sorry I didn't mean to change your mind but I know when O purchased my SSRs they were $530 bucks or something like that. The offsets you are seeing for the 19s can also apply to 20's you'll just have some thinner rubber. For 20's look for something for the front anywhere from +22 to +29. The rear +25 - +29. Beleive me when I say you won't be disapointed with the look....BTW I loved my SSRs but even on my Z they where tucked. The Gs wheelwell just swallows high offsets.

Not Disappointed

Actually I wish I had checked with you guys before ordering the rears. When I had the 19" SSR's on my 03 Sedan the look was full and tight. When I transferred the wheels to my new coupe I was shocked at how tucked they where. So............... I thought I would go to 20's with a wider rim. My inexperience at rim offsets is to blame here. I am returning my SSR 20's for some 20“ 10.5 OZ Galileo III's, or something with a better fit.

The front offset is +34mm
The rea Offset is + 28mm

SO.............. What is the widest tire I can run all the way around? I am hoping to go up to 285/30/20 raers amd 255/30/20 fronts. What is the best sizes to get the full look I want without problems.

BTW - The rear rims ran $800 each and the fronts where going to be $750 each. The OZ is a little more, but at these prices I want what I want. I attached the photo's of my Sedan and Coupe with the wheels. The diiference is noticeable. My coupe is now fully tinted and spoilered.

Thanks in advance.

255/35 20 and 285/30 20 should be fine, what are they going on now? 20x9 and 20x10.5? KDW and falken GRB's are available in those sizes, KDW's are alittle more $$ but a better tire over all.
