lug nuts keep coming loose......

Using a new set up this year. I have a set of Rohana RC26 wheels, in the front I'm using 10mm spacers they're good quality ones and fit the hub great I put them on 2 weeks ago and drove a total of approximately 100km, today I just came back from a drive and decided to have a look at the lug nuts again I found the front wheels to be loose yet again with the passenger side very loose to the point that 1 of the lugs was backed out 5 turns! Why is this happening? Is it because of the expansion of 2 peices of aluminum? The wheels are all balanced up nice and the rears which have adapters are just fine. I have some blue lock-tite maybe I should put a dab on the fronts to prevent this from happening again. I'm supposed to go with my family out this weekend and will be driving quite a bit I don't want nothing dangerous to happen.

They are hubcentric machined aluminum specific to 5x114 66.1bore. They sit perfectly. I have installed extended studs.

Wow, that is very strange and dangerous.
All I can say, is were they torqued to 80 ft/lbs in the proper torque sequence (I know if you did it then it was done properly)

Ya it is very weird indeed. I ended up taking the front wheels off than re installing them with a bit of the blue loc-tite I should be ok now I guess I'll see when I go to Buffalo this Saturday. I'm thinking maybe it's the longer studs? The guy sold me them with the wheels, the spacers he sold me with the wheels were crap so maybe he cheeped out on the studs to.

You really need to investigate this. The loc-tite is a Band-Aid that may fail as well. Last thing you want is a wheel coming off.

For them to back off like that, there needs to be movement in the rim, or the spacer. Also, what type of lug nuts are you using and how do they sit in the rim?

The spacer is hubcentric, but are the rims seated on the hub of the spacer? Are you using hub rings?

Do you NEED the front spacers? Can you run without them?

Yes I'm using hub rings, yes I need to be running some kind of spacer because the rim spokes will hit the caliper, I might be able to run a 5mm but not sure if it's going to solve my problem.
Now I did realize I changed to a better spacer and this was the 2 time total upon installation I have Re tightened them in other words first Re tighten. I'll monitor the wheels this weekend and see if they come loose again, I'll keep my torque wrench in the trunk just in case.

Maybe you didn't seat the extended studs when you installed them. ?

For the lugs to come loose means there is movement...which is dangerous. Perhaps the studs weren't seated, but i'm wondering the rim, or the spacer is shifting laterally against the rotor, or the rim against the spacer. That movement could actually stretch the studs slightly.

The studs could also be cheap POS studs that are yielding when you torque them down.

Is it a bolt on spacer, or a slip on spacer?

that was what I was originally asking you op^
Sorry haven't been able to reply

I can see slip ons causing you problems like that
Or likewise, a bolt on one not torqued properly

this is a slip on spacer with extended studs....maybe the extended studs are POS, when I installed them they seemed to have seated properly from a visual perspective also the previous owner had them on his G Sedan although I'm sure he would have told me what I wanted to hear during my purchase of the wheels. I did notice when putting both spacers on there was little movement (sliding back & forth) on the rotor but even with the other set I had there was little movement, I did put some anti-seize on the back of the spacer and on the hub part of the rotor could that be the cause? maybe I should wipe it off I'm assuming it's kind of acting like a grease.

I'm gonna see how things go this weekend and take it from there, if they come loose again I'll have to pull everything apart again and see what the heck is going on.

Drove about 300km today then checked the front wheels both are still tight and I didn't even use loc-tite on one wheel, I think things are Ok now but I'm going to check again in a few days.
