Unidirectional Tires..
Unidirectional Tires..
I recently noticed I put my winter tires on the wrong way (stupid mistake
). By this I mean I placed them wrong from side to side, but I did place the rears and fronts in the right location. I drove like this for two months and just noticed it now. How bad did I damage the tires?

On tirerack.com they did an interesting test where they ran Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 Max Performance tires on a 2003 SVT Cobra Mustang on a wet and dry track with the tires mounted correctly, then backwards. They were somewhat surprised to find that there was very little performance difference either way. Not sure how this applies to snow tires, though. This was their note at the end:
Here's the article: What Direction Shoud You Go to Resist Hydroplaning?
NOTE: If directional tires are accidentally installed backwards during initial installation or following tire rotation; the driver should simply reduce speeds in the rain and have the tires installed correctly at the first opportunity. Running directional tires backwards for a brief period of time will not hurt their internal structure.
Most of the "directional effect" was a marketing hype invention.
Absolutely non worn directional tires are usually better [3%] in rain hydroplanning speed till they wear out [lose the edge] in 5,000 miles. Half worn directional tires may be worse than equal depth non directionals depending on road water depth.
A few things the ads forget to mention.
Same with noise tuning reduction quieter till 5,000 miles then much louder as the acoustic cancellation changes.
