Winter rims/tires for a 6MT coupe?

now that spring is coming around, I'm trying to find a set to purchase for next winter....I've tried tirerack before the winter started, but is was all on back order, especially the 17" rim/tire package(I forgot what is was called)...I tried looking on their website, but it doesn't show anymore....it only has the option for 18" rims, which I don't want....

I bought winter tires last november, and settled on the Pirelli Snow Sport 240's in 18". They are a perfect match for the car, and an excellent tire. I elected to keep the snows on the original rims, and am purchasing new 19" wheels and tires for this summer. If you can afford this setup, it really makes it easy in the fall to swap shoes, especially with the 18" stock wheels looking so good.

Call them and ask, I'm sure they have several combinations that will work. I've got a used set (off this board) that originally came from Tire Rack. They're Mille Miglia Action rims (17 x 8" +35 offset) and Pirelli Snowsport tires. They work fine in the snow and are reasonable in the dry.

I've got a set of 17" coupe rims and WS-50's (I used 3mm spacers to clear the Brembos) which might be for sale. A friend of mine said he's interested, but if he doesn't want them I'll be selling them online. They have just under 2000 miles on them and very little wear is noticeable. I'll see if my buddy still wants them...

P.S. I'm getting rid of them only b/c I'm moving to Florida in a couple of weeks

OK, mine are for sale now. My friend backed out complaining about the $17,000 in taxes he has to pay after he sold his house... So if you would like them, send me a PM. I'll need to get rid of them pretty quick since I'll be moving in about 2 weeks.

Mike

I bought my winter set up last July. Tire Rack had plenty of size/combinations is stock.....Last winter I was screwed because I didn't buy my car until late Oct/Nov. and Tire Rack was all sold out already for the Year....

The Dunlop M3 winter sport tires are really good....I had no problems this year, and we had a few good snows here in New Jersey.

I went with 225/55/17's all around. I put them on ASA KA3 rims. I'm not sure if they will fit the brembo's.

I went with the ASA JH3's in 17x7.5 all around (from Tirerack). I also used the Dunlop Winter Sport M3's in 225/50-17 front and 225/55-17 rear. They worked pretty well this season, and fit nicely over the Brembos. Here's a pic of the front left:

Just a simple question. How's the stock 19's 2005 Coupe tires on snow? I just bought my car about 1 month ago and was thinking of taking up skiing. Thanks in advance.

HORRIFIC! Its a summer tire, they are designed to work in warmer temperatures and not on snow or ice. You will have no traction or control. Buy a winter setup.

He's not joking. Do a search, and stay away from snow in the sport tires.

There truly is no comparison between summer vs winter-only tires, or even all season vs. winter-only tires. Dedicated snow tires are a must for these cars to be driven in the white stuff.

Fortunately, the only white stuff for me these days is found on the beach

Buy my 18" OEMs and get snows on them. They worked great in the Ohio winters.

Well, I'm by the beach in Sunny Southen Cal ;-) So, can I put winter tires on the 2005 19's? If so, maybe I'll just get some nicer rims (hard to believe there can be nicer ones then the stock). The stock ones are pretty damn nice. But, if I have to, I guess I can get some new ones and just keep the stock ones as winter. Does that sound good? I only go skiing about 3 or so times a year. Thanks.
