05 g35 coupe - Tires are wearing badly on the insides, too much camber?

Hey guys so my 05 g35 coupe is stock suspension wise. I just put a brand new pair of Michelin Pilot Spot 4s on the front last summer and the insides are already showing wires while the outsides are fresh. I drove fall, winter, up till now on them (less than 1 full year).

Something to mention - car had 17" wheels stock, and I put the 19" Ray's on. Could this be the reason for the tire wear?

it doesn't even look like the camber is that dramatic, I know its set from the factory to be slightly angled for handling but this is pretty extreme tire wear. I thought my wheel bearing was bad until I saw the tires, extremely loud road noise and wonky handling starting to happen occasionally at highway speeds on uneven roads. I just replaced the passenger side upper control arm/ball joint but this has been happening it seems for a while.

here are some pics. My question is why are they wearing so fast if my suspension is stock, and will an alignment fix this or do I need to by a shim kit?

Camber is noticable but not extreme, should be stock specs

Tires are 1 season old

1 season old

You need to replace your lower control arms ASAP. The wandering you're feeling is due to a blown bushing. I've circled the problem in the pic you posted. The arm should be centered, in this pic it's all the way to one side.

If you are completely stock, then it looks like you have excessive camber in the front. It should be -0.5 degrees in the front, and that pic looks closer to -2, something to be expected if the car was lowered.

Replace the lower control arms, as well as the compression rods. If you look them up on a parts website, they'll be called "front lower control arm - forward" and "front lower control arm - rearward". I'd do all four of them, plus the ball joints while you're in there.

Tires aren't measured in "seasons" they're measured in MILES. How many miles do you have on them?

Sports car suspensions aren't built for longevity, they're built for performance. You can expect to replace every single component on the front suspension by about 150k miles, most of those components will need to be replaced by 100k but some things like wheel bearings might last to 150k.

You should get in the habit of always having your alignment checked when you put tires on the car or once per year, whichever happens first. Doing so probably could have saved that set of tires from premature wear (if they were wearing prematurely and not simply due to miles traveled).

Your camber looks drastically off for a stock suspension, like Lost180 said, something is likely broken/severly worn.

I obviously know they are measured in miles I said they were put on last season to give an idea of how old they are. I drive an average amount, maybe 12k miles / year or less so I'd estimate they have less than 10k miles on them.

I just replaced the upper control arm on the passenger side. I take care of my car, hence why I'm here and why I'm trying to sort the problem, the tire wear happened so quickly and in winter you arent really turning your tires all the way out to check the insides very often, it just started getting nice here and I'm going over the car.

So is the camber something that can be fixed with an alignment, or is it too drastic and will need shims? I planned to get 2 new front tires, an alignment, and assess the worn parts on the front end (maybe not in that order).

No camber adjustment on stock suspension. Tire wear like that on a narrow strip on the inside is from bad toe settings. Car may align fine, but if suspension is worn out, it won't hold. Replace worn parts, alignment, and new tires all at the same time, or you'll end up here at the end of summer with the same problem.

Maaaan that sucks. I had plans to possibly sell the car (have a 2 year old now) and I'm not going to sell a car needing work. It drives great but the road noise is bad right now. Thank you for the answer I was looking for. I'll check out the front end and see what else needs replacing in there.

If you can do the repairs yourself check out the complete front end kits from 1A Auto, they're super budget minded and will usually cost less than $400 for everything.

They're sort of crap but it's better than a suspension that's eating tires.

As for the mileage, I put 60k miles on a truck in 6 months one time. I was surprised how quickly I went through tires until I actually checked the miles on them, that's why I mentioned it.

Wow thats a ton of miles in 6 months! True people do have drastically different amounts they drive, so I should have listed the miles instead.

Im a decently skilled mechanic and usually order from Rock Auto, 400 isn't bad at all for a complete front end kit assuming its upper and lower control arms with ball joints, tie rods, sway bar endlinks bushings the whole shabang? Going to get under there hopefully tomorrow and see whats all worn out. I found a decent used set of Michelins im going to throw on the front for now until I get everything fixed, should be picking them up tomorrow. The tires are so noisy right now its literally starting to vibrate the interior plastics a little and drive me nuts.
