Re: Cheap rims??? WHY???

Forged rims- www.tirerack.com. Check out the BBS RGR and RS-GT. Both are forged. Concur with comment "you get what you pay for". As for potholes, your best defence is not to keep buying inexpensive rims every year, it's to buy rims that will stand up to them.
On my VW Corrado, the stock alloy wheels were toast, square toast, in 3 years. Come to Nova Scotia Canada- we invented potholes as a joint project with the state of Michigan. I bit the bullet and bought BBS 3 pc RG's. After 7 years, they were like new. I even hit an unmarked lip at the beginning of a construction zone that I swear rattled the fillings in my teeth loose (square lip ~3" high, driving 50 mph) and the wheels were unscathed!!!
Both of the aforementioned wheels are avail in diamond black. If you want to know what they look like on the car, the website can do that, or, our G is the car of the month for tirerack in the July Road and Track. My money will be on a set of 18" RGR's in db.

Re: Cheap rims??? WHY???

So the real question is "Expensive Rims...Why?"

And the answer would be "...if you live in a region fraught with potholes...that's why."

Otherwise many of us are better off with Axis, ADR, Enkei, Konig...to name a few! (HRE's and Maya's are pretty sweet though.)

If I were to get rims, it would probably be something like SSR Competitions... lightweight. That runs around $1100 for 4. Not cheap. Not horribly expensive.

As for why would you want cheap rims? Well, I'm sure the snow belt guys have a one-word answer for that one: Winter. Cheap steel 16" rims with cheap, grippy winter tires that can slug it out through the slush, slide into the curbs, and come out in the spring time no worse for the wear -- at which point it's time to put the pricey ones back on.

Re: Cheap rims??? WHY???

this isn't the first time this topic has been brought up... but i agree... the stock 18s are very nice and unless you get some real rims (not knock offs)... you're better off leaving the stock rims on... it's not about how much money you spend, although there is a direct linear relationship between price and quality.

Unfortunately, there is NOT a direct relationship between price and attractive.
