Avon Tires: Heard of them? Have Them?
Avon Tires: Heard of them? Have Them?
I'm going to be needing new tires soon. My Michelin Pilot A/S are showing wear after only 12,000 miles of normal family-man driving. So I went to tirerack.com where the Avon brand of tires was ranked second against all other ultra-high performance, all-season tires (Michelin Pilot A/S were third). The customer review miles were well under the Pilots and the Pirellis, but those who had bought the Avon Tech M550 A/S tires seemed to like them. Does anyone have Avon tires? If so, what are your thoughts on them?

My friend had Avon tires on his accord a while back. He took them off within a year of having them on because they were making bubbles on the sidewall. Who knows??? Maybe their quality is higher now....
I've only seen there bike line up and cosmetic catalog. I never knew they made car tires too.
SF how do you like avon bike tires compared to other tires. I think yours came stock with bridgestone Bt014?
I've had bt012rr, bt014, metzler rensport, michelin pilot sport, and all those stock dunlops (207 and 208s GPS too).
If thier bike tire line up is any good the car one should be too.

I just bought Avon Tech 550s for my '03 Couple 6mt. I only have about a 1,000 miles on them, so too early to comment on their durability. They ride better than my factory Michelin Pilot Sports, but there is a small trade-off in handling when you push the car to it's limit.
They're much cheaper than the Michelins, and if you're not pushing your sedan to the limit, it would be hard to tell the difference between them.
