i can't get it off. i tried everything, including simple green. there is small amounts of old brake dust caked on my non factory wheels. its right in the joints and i can't get them clean. any other suggestions on what i can use?

DEGREASER is great, there are some highly concentrated ones that require water to dilute, try them at different degrees, should help =) You can find them most anywhere.

The acid level of the degreaser should melt the brake dust into muddy grease, then a hose will wash it clean

You can try some Meguiar's CleanerWax which is an abrasive wax.
Don't use too much pressure on it while you apply, but should clean it up
pretty good.

Don't use this stuff all the time; it's best that you use regular polymer
wax on the wheels and just try to wash/clean them as much as possible.

i tried that too! did nothing. Dennis, i think thats what Simple Green is, a degreaser.

hummm...it sounds like the dust ate away into the clear.
You might need to get it refinished.

What kind of wheels are they? Have you tried Q tips or small brushes to get in there yet?

Yeh, you need to clean the wheels often if you want to keep them looking like new.

btw..I clean my wheels after every 2 runs. (2hours each run)

use a stiff, but soft bristle brush and get some of that orange mechanics hand cleaner. Clean small areas in short circular motions.

then when completely clean .... wipe the sweat from your brow and use a little elbow grease to apply some wheel wax!

If you don't have time for the upkeep on your wheels you can try switching to kevlar brake pads. From what I hear, their dust color is light and they don't stick to wheels as much.

Ok all you need to do is have your Brake pads replaced with after market ones that will clear up any or all brake dust problems. Trust me!
