Uniform Tire Quality (UTQG) Standards

"The problem with UTQG Treadwear Grades is that they are open to some interpretation on the part of the tire manufacturer because they are assigned after the tire has only experienced a little treadwear as it runs the 7,200 miles. This means that the tire manufacturers need to extrapolate their raw wear data when they are assigning Treadwear Grades, and that their grades can to some extent reflect how conservative or optimistic their marketing department is. Typically, comparing the Treadwear Grades of tire lines within a single brand is somewhat helpful, while attempting to compare the grades between different brands is not as helpful."

basically, when comparing two different brands the treadwear rating might be relatively close, but really MUCH more accurate when comparing two tires from the same brand

ok, now i got two conflicting sets of info.

350z guy told me to go with offset 40, since 18" rims are not made with offset 35 - he said, 40's all around.

zcargarage guy said he's been putting wheels with offset 50, 50! - on all G sedans, and that they fit great.

i am now considering, and will probably end up going with this setup:

front:
2 x Volk Racing LE37T 18x8.5
2 x Pirelli PZero Nero M+S 235/40-18 (all-season)
back:
2 x Volk Racing LE37T 18x9.5
2 x Pirelli PZero Nero M+S 265/35-18 (all-season)

few reasons:

- 275/35-18 may not fit in the back, so going with 265/35-18.

- if you went with 245/40-18 front and 265/35-18 back, the difference in circumference between front/back would be about 1.6%. Would that not mess with the traction control?

- Pirelli PZero Nero M+S has higher ratings than Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, and costs about $100 less per tire. I don't need any more convincing than that.

I just put on the following on my Sedan;
- work vs-xx 19x8(+38) w/ Dunlop sport maxx 245/40/19 - front
- work vs-xx 19x9(+45) w/ Dunlop sport maxx 275/35/19 - rear
My car is also lowered w/ Tein CS. The 275/35/19 will have no issues clearing the rear as long as your wheel offsets are correct.

i want very little.

- i want to hear the final word on wheel offset for 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 rims
- i want to hear any opinions on these tires/rims
- i want to hear "i have this setup and no problems" or "i had problems with that".

but i also want to keep record, and hope that someone with the same question can come here after me and find a good answer. as far as convincing goes, i don't need any of that.

I think we've offered a lot of information for you to make an educated decision. I sent you pics of my set up. Did you get it?

There are a thousand different ways to get a wheel/tire package. It's up to you to decide what you want. When you are buying tires like this, there is little difference from one to the other when you're doing city driving. It's a coke / pepsi issue. Some of us like a tire, some don't...some just don't care what it is.

We can't....at least I can't give you the scientific answer you're looking for.

If it makes you feel better....I say go get the package you quoted. ideally you want +35 front, +45 rear. +40 all around will work, but the rear set up is a bit agressive. You may have to roll your fenders if you lower it.

Oh...by the way...they guy that told you he puts +50 on sedans doesn't know what he's talking about. That offset would make the wheel stick inside the fender more than stock.

I don’t have direct experience with the Neros but the original tires on the Saleen were P-Zero Yellows and I am currently on a set of P-Zero Rossos. I am very impressed with the Rosso’s wet weather traction and they seem to wear better than the Yellows. After about 7,000 miles, the Yellow's perfomance took a big dive.

I am very interested in your results, as I am considering getting the same wheels.

“cdogg”, on this forum, mounted 245/35/19 and 265/30/19 Nitto 555 Extremes, on his sedan. I was never able to find out the size or offset of the wheels.

thank you, guys! i just PM'ed CDogg, let's see if i can get his offsets...

the zcargarage dude still has not told me if i can get those tires/rims... now it's weekend, and i won't know anything until at least monday... and you'd think that if you were willing to pay, people would be willing to take your moneys?...

on the flip side, i installed (yes, myself ) RHD battery cover and stillen t-rex billet grille today - nice nice nice! pics to follow.

i also have stillen grounding kit on hands, but stillen instructions suck... will look for a picture FAQ on these forums - otherwise, i'll let a mechanic install it...

that's what bothers me. he said he used offset +50. i have seen the car he did it on - 2004 g35 sedan, with exact same rims make/model/size. i saw the car with my own two eyes, and i even rode in it. no rubbing!

one explanation i could come up with is that he may have meant "max offset", which, according to the size table on rayswheels.co.jp is +40 (for both 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 rims).

it may be at least Monday or Tuesday when i can get the rims shipped, which means they'll be here Thursday or Friday. One good thing about this, is if the guy f-ed up and got me wrong offsets, it's his fault and he'll have to deal with returning/fixing it. but, i still tend to trust him, despite a couple of run-arounds... we'll see - at this point i have not shelled out any moneys, so...

again, Chico and others, thank you guys for edmucating me - i'm a computer guy, not a car guy, and i'm just beginning to learn. not to say that i can't hold a wrench, it's just that sometimes little intricacies of things escape me.
